Super cute, spacious and quiet new cafe at the corner of busy 3rd and Reed Street that opened during the covid era. Spacious and quiet enough to get work done but also have a small friend gathering for food. I believe they are piloting a brunch menu because I did not see some items on yelp or Google. There is also outdoor seating available. Ordering and safety precautions are in place and the overall place is very clean with friendly staff. There is no server to take your order and everything is done with your phone and scanning a QR code. It is super convenient!
I ordered the Quinoa Pumpkin bowl and the peach refresher for my meal. For dessert, I got the Matcha Light Cream Cake. Pros: I really like the refresher because it was super bubbly, not too sweet and of course, refreshing. The Quinoa Pumpkin bowl was a super healthy choice on the menu and very filling. The bowl contains plenty of protein items and veggies: chickpeas, a hard boiled egg, quinoa at the bottom, shrimp, avocados, tomatoes,, and roasted pumpkin. At first I thought they put peanut butter or caramel on top but it's a homemade tangy but sweet sauce that complemented the ingredients in the dish. My favorite highlight of the meal was the matcha cake. If you like matcha and you like cakes then this one is a solid choice. It has a layer of brownie infused into the matcha cake. The cream was not a sugar bomb and the right amount. I'm still thinking about it! I love how they decorated and made their cakes so beautiful. It makes you want to order them all!
Cons: There are only two cons I can think of on the top of my head. In my quinoa dish, I found the roasted pumpkin to be over cooked and too dry. Overall the wait time to get the meal was quite long. However, like I said, they could be working out the kinks to launching new items and expanding their menu for customers. It was still worth the wait! The prices for the cakes were on the more expensive end but it was delicious. It wouldn't encourage me to get one frequently but once in a blue moon as a nice treat for myself.
Overall, I loved my experience here and would 100% recommend it especially since their menu seem to be expanding. I love the vibes and the simple decor inside. It's spacious, quiet, friendly staff and amazing...
Read moreI really did love this place overall. Here are my little pros and cons.
Pros -
Lovely, lovely staff. The waitresses, the ladies behind the counter by the register, they were all suuuper nice and kind, and provided excellent customer service. All the food I had was YUMMY, and FRESH. (I ordered a hazelnut coffee ($4), the chicken pancake plate ($18), and a coffee mousse($8)) The have a little counter with sugar packets, stirrers, honey, napkins and more for your coffee and such While we were waiting for our food, the waitress came by with a cute little basket with some REALLY GOOD bread (it had some seeds and herbs in it) along with some herby/seasoned butter. It was free and delicious. The restrooms are down the stairs by the main entrance, and they are kept nice and clean
Cons -
Expensive. Yeah, this place is kinda pricey. I was most disappointed by the coffee mousse ($8) I got, because that thing was TINY. It could literally fit in my palm Is it just me or is it always hard to flag down a waitress? Maybe I was too quiet, but then again, I didn't wanna seem rude by raising my voice. It wasn't busy or very loud either. But then again, maybe...

If you're looking for a nice cute cafe with aesthetically pleasuring dessert that's as delicious as it looks, this is the place. This cafe in south Philly is a great place to stop by after a meal or even to work or relax. Cake and Joe specializes in light mousse cakes in very unique presentations. They have unique seasonal flavors as well. The cakes were not super sweet, pretty light but full of flavor.
Coffee mousse cake - Definitely full of coffee flavor. I really like the cake base that goes well with the creamy mousse. Mousse is fairly light but rich.
Passion fruit mousse cake - tangy and sweet. There's different layers within the cake, each with a different consistency and concentration fo flavors. This makes each bite different but well balanced. The ring graham like cracker is a great contrast to the mousse.
Grapefruit calpis - this yogurt like drink reminds me of the Japanese calpico drink. Very refreshing and taste very grapefruitty but maybe a bit too sweet to my liking. A bit less sugar and it would be perfect. I would like to try their other flavors.
VERDICT Definitely would go again if I'm...
