Doctor Hot Chicken is an absolute gem.
From their service, to their pricing, to the quality and quantity of their dishes, this place checks each box.
We had been out running around all day after arriving in Philly the day before, and rolled into Doctor Hot Chicken at 12:30 in the morning, needing something to eat after have gone without food since breakfast. Going in, the space itself is small, and feels a bit like a hole-in-the-wall, but they certainly make the most of it. It was very clean, and the walls are spray painted with several interesting, fun, and well-done motifs of cartoonish chickens and peppers.
The menu focuses on quality of quantity, consisting of wings, tenders, sliders (which are actually full sized chicken sandwiches), and loaded fries, each available at several heat levels. The woman at the counter was extremely pleasant, and answered all of our questions as we were trying to make decisions. Having all ordered, we sat and stood waiting for our food, which took awhile, but a very reasonable amount of time considering it was clearly being made fresh; I was standing, as there was one more of us than there were seats, and unprompted, the women behind the counter brought out an additional seat so that we could all have one; I had no issue standing and made no comment previously, so that was above and beyond considerate.
The portions for the price are sizable, but more impressively and importantly was the flavor and the freshness of the food: the chicken was tender and moist, the batter was crispy and light, the seasoning on both the chicken and the side of fries included with the meals were bold and very appropriately matched the level of heat that was described, and they had a good selection of drinks to accompany the meal. The sauce that comes with the chicken is also quite good, but the seasoned chicken itself is definitely the star here.

If you’re considering eating here, know this: the negative reviews are almost entirely due to Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.—NOT the restaurant itself.
The first time I ordered, the food looked amazing, but my Uber Eats driver took 50 minutes, made multiple unrelated stops far outside the route, and delivered my food ice cold. Even worse, the order wasn’t even correct.
Still, I gave it another shot because I had worked a 14-hour day and just needed a decent meal. I left a note explaining what happened last time. This time, I personally messaged the Uber driver to please deliver promptly and tipped 70%—because apparently, that’s the price you pay to get food delivered on time in Philly (drive to my place from restaurant is 3 mins by the way).
Thankfully, the food arrived quickly, and the restaurant even threw in some extras to make up for the previous experience. That meant a lot.
The food is delicious and the customer service is outstanding. It’s just a shame I have to rely on Uber Eats to get it.
This review is really for the restaurant’s management: your food is amazing, but your brand is being damaged by delivery drivers who don’t care about timeliness or order accuracy. I hope there’s something you can do—because you deserve better than the experience these third-party apps...
Read moreI recently dined at Chicken, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the chicken sandwich . It was perfectly cooked—crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The seasoning was spot on, with just the right balance of spices that made every bite a delight.
The fries is impressive, complementing the main dish perfectly. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite.
Overall, Dr Hot Chicken is a must-visit for anyone who loves a delicious chicken meal. I can't wait to go back and try more of...
