Today was my second time visiting this place. The first visit I had the Coquito Iced latte and it was delicious! Naturally, I chose to return and try another item.
Today, I ordered a large iced Matcha latte and it did not meet expectations at all.
I originally ordered the drink with soy milk and vanilla flavor but when I realized the price of $5.50 had risen to almost $9 for these customizations of an estimated 16oz, costing more than a Starbucks Venti Matcha with no extra cost for non dairy milk, I elected to go with the standard preparation unaware that it would be made with whole milk.
Anyone, especially a coffee shop, should know the do's and dont's of the products they sell. Matcha should never be standardly prepared with whole milk as this negates the health benefits and overpowers the very delicate flavor of the Matcha.
Japanese Matcha should be standardly prepared with a milk alternative (mine is soy but even rice milk is acceptable) at no extra cost and a dairy milk preparation should be at special request.
Needless to say the drink was unpalatable and I've drank a quarter of it, forcibly but am unsure if I will finish the drink.
I did call the shop shortly after and spoke with the kind woman whom both prepared and cashiered my order today. I gave her a friendly suggestion of preparing a proper Matcha Latte and while she did not offer me to return the drink and she would be willing to properly prepare a Matcha Latte for me, she did say she would pass the friendly suggestion on to her boss.
Hopefully, the boss will make necessary adjustments to this classic drink .
In conclusion, I will return to this shop as I would like to try their food and horchata latte next but, I will not be ordering another Matcha latte unless the product and price both are consistent with basic quality preparation standards.
The 4 stars is because the Coquito latte was delicious and the overall atmosphere and friendliness of the...
Read moreI went for brunch with me friends over the weekend and we ordered different things because we wanted to try everything. The portions of the food are great and everything is delicious. We had the grilled cheese, the BBLT and the Tuzi Sandwich, I still can’t decide which one is my favorite because I loved all of them. I had also the Café Abuelita and it was the perfect combination of coffee and chocolate, not too sweet, not too strong. I would definitely coming back and try other things from their menu. Definitely check this place out, the service is great and the...
Read moreFinally checked this place out the other day. I got the Coquito Iced coffee which is one of their specialty drinks, and it was DELICIOUS. I'm usually more of a coffee purist who doesn't order flavored drinks, but I will definitely get this again. My with got their Matcha Latte which was also very good. We also got a breakfast quesadilla and a breakfast sandwich. They were also both very good. The cheese on the quesadilla was perfectly creamy and gooey. The prices are also very reasonable compared to other coffee shops in the area. This may become my new...
