Wow. All i can say is wow. This place is probably one of the best places to eat/chill/relax/chillreat in not only Northern Liberties, but the city altogether. Opening only a little over a month before the writing of this review, it has not failed to be a great experience through and through every time I have gone.
Jerrys only opens for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays at 10am, with Sunday being the Jazz Brunch, with a little jazz ensemble playing some smooth tunes in the background. Otherwise during the week the bar opens at 4pm and restaurant officially opens at 5, but they will serve you no matter when you come in. Even if they decide not to, just relaxing in the clean, airy, rustic, and overall comfortable environment is a treat in and of itself.
Now to the food. Every meal I have had here has be absolutely perfect. I say that with no reservations. I can think of nothing that disappointed me about the food here. Ordering the chicken and bow-ties is probably the best decision i have made in my life. It takes about 20 min to prepare since it is made to order, but trust me it was worth every second of the wait. The chicken and its skin were cooked to juicy, crispy perfection. The accompanying broth, bow-tie pasta, and shaved thigh meat were the dolby speakers to the chicken's 4K TV. Glorious. For brunch, I ordered the buttermilk pancakes. The fluffy pillows of goodness had perfect hints of vanilla and cinnamon baked right in. With liberal amounts of the accompanying warm syrup slathered on you have the most delicious American breakfast in front of you. The jazz in the background was the icing on the cake.
Jerrys Bar is my go to place in Northern Liberties. They got it right straight from the beginning and are showing no signs of slowing down. I have been pleasantly surprised every time i have gone and you will to. What are you waiting...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you had asked me five years ago to name my top fine restaurants in Philly, Jerry's Bar would be in the mix. The building's architecture and the layout of the dining rooms and bar - very unique and very cool to view. Whoever did their architectural design and interior decorating when the current floor plan was done should get hired by any restaurant/bar. The service was great and the food was really good. However....I've found in the past three years that their prices got jacked up and the level of quality of the food went down dramatically. I understand how bad inflation was in 2022 and 2023....but the prices shot up way past inflation and okay - fine - if you need to jack up prices to keep staff and keep pushing out the same level of quality food that's one thing. It's totally another thing to raise prices by fifty or one hundred percent overnight and decrease the quality of the output at a commensurate rate. I used to think of this as a hidden spot that only locals, explorer types like me, and those "in the know" would find. Now I think it's a place surviving on its past reputation and people that think that just because prices are high, it must be a good spot. Had to stop coming here with groups for happy hour and post city hikes/tours I was so ashamed of the food and prices. Hoping maybe new owners, a new chef, and/or new management comes in and takes this back to what it was. Definitely has the repice, pun INTENDED, for success if they can get back to what they were doing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen wanting to try this place for a while so decided to go with a friend who was visiting from out of town - we went for brunch. I did make a reservation the day before to be on the safe side and to ensure we had outdoor seating. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted and seated by the hostess. They did a great job of setting up the outdoor seating and giving it a great ambiance with the string lights and other things.
Once our waitress came over - she was very polite, friendly and helpful when we asked her opinions on menu items - we put in our order. For drinks, I got an Apple Cider Mimosa and my friend got a coffee. To eat, I got the Southern Fried Chicken Benny while she got a Sticky Bun and the Fried Eggs & Avocado Sandwich. I usually don't get bennies or anything with poached/runny eggs so went out on a limb here and it was actually really good. The chicken was well seasoned, the biscuits were fluffy to help sop up the eggs - it was so filling! My friend said the sandwich was ok, but she did really like the sticky bun. At the end, we were stuffed from all the food.
Overall, a good vibe, good food and would recommend trying out. I hope to go there again either for brunch or happy...
