If you didn’t know, Maison Sweet is the “sister” store to A La Mousse (which is in Center City). The menu seems to be nearly identical. In fact, they even use the A La Mousse branding on all their packages.
I’ve been to this location three times since their grand opening. With the lack of pastries near University City, I was excited for this store. However, I’m quite underwhelmed.
First, service is slowwwww. Each pastry are put into their own boxes that are then taped with stickers that are then also put in a premium bag for $0.10 that are then stapled… my goodness… it takes forever! I love the care they put into it, but please find a way to speed this process up. This is even worse considering there’s only one cashier 😭. Don’t even get me started on how long it takes to get your drink. With only 1 (maybe 2) employees working on drinks, it’ll take you a lifetime before you get it. I finished ordering my drink at 2:50PM, and I got it at 3:00PM. Not busy. Only one person ahead of me…10 minutes?! Every time it has been the same.
In addition, the pastries / sweets / desserts are REALLY hit or miss. For example, most of the flavors are just really really bland and just super milky and thick. The drinks are also so so bland and just thick / creamy. There are a few good ones: their coffee bean and mango pastry (one that looks like a mango) are good. Though both are great, I can not help but feel I’ve had better tasting at better prices.
Ah yes, prices: $8.50 for a medium drink that I ordered. $9.50 for a large….Each dessert is nearly the same, maybe more. Your wallet wishes you luck.
For the drink, you’ve got to REALLY stirrrrr whatever you get. I got their Taro drink and made the mistake of not stirring. It was literal milk. But even after stirring, and I also got Mango Pomelo Sage…it tastes like thick milk with flavored paste.
The store itself is very pretty. Well designed. But that was the most exciting unfortunately. I give it 3 though because they are...
Read moreI’ve been to here a few times before and usually had a decent experience, but my visit today was honestly disappointing. I went with my boyfriend and we ordered the Mango Cloud drink, Strawberry Matcha, and the mango dessert (listed as $11 on the menu).
Both drinks were lowkey bad. The Mango Cloud tasted sour and more like rice with just lots of milk, no fruity flavor. The Strawberry Matcha was the same. all milk, barely any matcha, and the strawberry syrup was way too sour. The dessert itself was okay, a little soggy for something meant to be a hard shell, but not terrible compared to the drinks.
I think the biggest issue with what I had a PROBLEM with was when the check came. Our total was $28, which is fine, but the prices didn’t match the menu. The mango dessert rang up as $14 when the menu clearly said $11. The table behind us also had a similar issue where they even said they had a service charge of 18%. No one told them for 5 ppl there’s a service charge and they said they would never come again because “WTH” When I asked the server for our issue, she first gave me a soft attitude, saying it was $1 extra cuz dine in is more… like for what?… which didn’t make sense. She insisted the price was correct. I knew it wasn’t, and instead of checking right away, she kept giving that passive aggressive smile and said she’ll get the menu for me (to prove me wrong I guess lol) Eventually, after making us wait forever, she came back smiling and admitted the prices on the menu weren’t updated and had gone up because of inflation. That’s not a small mistake that’s false advertising.
To me it’s not about the extra dollars, it’s about being upfront and treating customers with respect. If prices change, the menu should reflect that. The customer service was unprofessional and only became apologetic once she realized she was wrong.
Overall, drinks were not good, dessert was just okay, and the way the situation was handled completely ruined the experience. I won’t be...
Read moreLet’s begin by saying I am very much into cafes and desserts. After reading so many positive comments .I finally decided to try this place on a Friday evening at 4:30ish .As I enter the space seems smaller than what I have imagined from the pictures .Then our server very graciously greets us and guide us to our respected seats. We decide to order the afternoon tea set for 4 for $55, while switching our drinks from tea to coffee . Dessert Set choices: They were out of cream puff so replaced it with 2 strawberry rolls, 2 mousse cakes: picked Yuzu and polar bear , 1 cake : picked Ferraro, 1 crepe cake : coconut matcha ,2 ice creams : mango and coffee truffle. Polar bear:4/10. Tasted vanilla mouse to me just a bit creamier. Yuzu :3/10 .this was the most dragged about but unfortunately was a huge disappointment to my taste buds .hard tangy outer layer with mousse inside and a tarty jam which overall made it very sour for a dessert . Strawberry rolls : 5/10 .nothing special just like a strawberry cake next door . Ferraro :4/10.I was expecting a more rich chocolate with hazelnut flavor but it was not near to any. This was an another version of Black Forest cake . Cocunut matcha crepe cake :9/10.This stood out among the rest .Great balance of coconut and matcha.both flavors were complementing each other without empowering . Ice creams : coffee truffle = 4/10 and mango = 2/10 the least mango tasting ice cream I ever had . Drinks :2 cappuccinos =5/10 normal tasting in fact on the lighter side for my taste .1 king taro =8/10 was very rich and creamy.1 tea espresso latte =6/10. Note: take note of extra charges +$2 for every switch made from tea to coffee. There is a service charge of 18%.So our bill for an afternoon tea for 4 people was $82+ Summary: I do applaud them for the aesthetic part of desserts and the interior but I wish they were equally satisfying to my taste buds too.The place might be Instagram worthy but would not recommend any special trips...
