HIGHLY recommend! Food is delightful and such a nice evolution of taste with each bite. The staff (Emmy) were so friendly and personable! Definitely made the evening just all around fun!
We went for the Golden Hour Happy Hour and were able to order an assortment of food and drink. The day was very hot and we chose to eat outside. I recommend reserving a table ahead of time if you want a table in the shade.
For drinks, we tried the Prosecco (sparkling wine), the Daydreamer, and the City Wide. The Prosecco was nice and crisp with honey tones throughout, quite nice for a hot day. That being said, the Daydreamer was the winner in my book - BEAUTIFULLY refreshing and such a nice balance of flavors. On a hot day, it was perfect. My partner had the City Wide and really enjoyed the pairing of the two flavors - can't say much more beyond that.
For food we tried the meatballs, the Salmon Tartare, and one of each of the Bao buns (in the end we each ordered an additional Pork Belly Bao). The meatballs were cooked with a juicy inside and a nice crisp outside with a sugary yet spicy glaze (not too spicy, a nice hello from the spice). The Salmon Tartare was overall a refreshing dish that was pleasant to eat.
The bao buns, particularly the pork belly, were where it is at. I wasn't sure about them at first with the kimchi and sesame soy glaze paired with the pork belly, but the evolution of flavor and the pairing of all of the flavors within the bun were unparalleled. It might be one of the best things that I have ever eaten. I'm not even sure I can describe it with justice. The pork belly had been cooked with a slight smokiness and melded into the sweet flavors of the glaze and then the spicy hints from the kimchi. Each element might meld or come into the spotlight with each chew, in a welcoming way.
We enjoyed the chicken bao with the mix of sriracha mayo and pickle, and although good, compared to the other two bao, we weren't as excited by the falafel bao. It was good and we liked whatever herb they add to their falafel, but nothing compared to the pork belly.
If you go, and I highly recommend going, definitely give those pork belly bao buns a try. We will be going back for those.
The view isn't necessarily one to write home about, but this is a place where the food and drink shine beyond anything, and the staff again are just delightful and friendly human beings. We enjoyed this place very much, I will be taking any folks visiting the city who love...
Read moreWalnut Street Cafe is a pretty trendy cafe located at the base of the FMC Tower/Cira Centre South complex with a nice outdoor seating area on, as the name suggests, Walnut St. There is ample street parking, whether it is in front or a street or 2 over towards UC. You can reserve a table as well, which makes things easier. Service was above average, but can definitely improve in terms of attentiveness. They do offer a happy hour (or "Golden Hour") from 5-7 and a brunch (ONLY WEEKENDS); my friends and I came for the dinner just before HH ended, but I definitely will try to come back for brunch some time since pics look amazing. And oh, btw, THE FOOD IS AMAZING!
Food/Drinks I would have to say the food items here were pretty impressively good. Interestingly, many of the things here on Yelp were not on the menu and not a lot of what they currently have was shown, making you think they rotate their menu. The HH menu was small, with about 3-4 delicious looking drinks and 3 appetizers for the price of $5/each. As for the specifics, the Haloumi fries (a type of Middle Eastern cheese stick) were interesting and unexpected, but the Greek yogurt it comes with compliments it well. A safe choice is definitely the Fried Chicken sandwich. It comes with fries but you can substitute it free of charge from one of the other sides; I chose Brussel sprouts, and tbh, DO THIS! The Brussel sprouts were filling and strongly seasoned and one of the best I've ever had. My friends also had various other items, including the Summer Garden Pot Pie, Lancaster Beer Can Chicken, and Fish Filet sandwich, and they all pretty said their dishes were delicious! The Beer can Chicken definitely looks filling (half a chicken!)
Rating: 9/10 Pros: Gorgeous/trendy appearing restaurant, great food Cons: Can be super sunny during sunset if not sat in shade Recommendation: Brussel sprouts,...
Read moreI have been here several times since it opened. I have witnessed it evolve past some minor issues. Nothing you wouldn't expect from a new restaurant.
This restaurant is arguably the best value restaurants in the city.
You are always greeted with a friendly smile by the hosts and promptly taken care of. The wait staff are well trained and knowledgeable about the menu.
I have by now, tasted most of the menu. There are some exceptional dishes. The understated Chicken Sausage small plate is something to behold. Never has a dish been more mis represented by its name. It's a skillfully executed dish with tremendous layered flavors and textures. A must have item.
Most dishes are hits and my 2 year old would attest to the kid friendliness of the menu. I wasn't to fond of the deconstructed lasagne. It's kind of an oxymoron. Should lasagne be deconstructed? Lasagne is more than the sum of its parts in my opinion. The parts were tasty, but keep them together!!
The interior space is a montage of fine soft leather, thoughtfully selected furniture, beautiful woods and neutral tones. It's modern, well designed and light filled. An Enjoyable place to be.
The beer and cocktail lists is ample. The cocktails are great. Mostly classics with some minor but positive modifications. You can tell they have been tried and tested. The bar staff seem to be trained well and the product is consistent. Even their alcohol free elixirs are very tasty. Try the Turmeric drink. A great way to start any brunch.
The most impressive part of the experience is the value. The price of the dishes represent fantastic value for money and delivered in a beautiful modern environment. Arguably a Philly Top...
