An amazing experience. First, shout out to our waiter. Don't know his name but he came at exactly the right moments to take the order, hand over the check and refill the tea (which was delicious by the way, the most flavorful jasmine I've had) and was polite but not annoyingly attentive or enthusiastic. The food always came out at the perfect time too. The decor/ambience was great for date night, and we enjoyed the complementary oranges and fortune cookies on top of the free flow tea. Here's a review of everything we ordered. The vegetable dumplings were actually the only thing that was disappointing. They had a good texture and the dumpling skin was perfect, but the filling was bland - just tasted like vegetables. It wasn't bad and tastes like other vegetable dumplings I've had, but not exceptional. The fried banana was so delicious. Crispy and thin exterior, gooey and sweet on the inside. My partner wanted to order another one. The chow fun was amazing. I eat a lot of chow fun and this was maybe the best I've ever had. The vegetables were the perfect doneness which is rare, the noodles were savory and also the perfect texture and dimensions, there was wok hei flavor, the ham was so tasty, the mushrooms were fantastic - meaty and juicy and marinated. Blew us away. The peking duck was glorious. The vegetables were skillfully julienned, the buns were soft, and the duck itself was so flavorful and had great texture. I've had a lot of vegan duck that was disappointing. This was the best I've had in the US, probably as good as vegan peking duck I've had in Singapore and Malaysia.
Will definitely be back many times. Absolutely outstanding experience. Thank you for a...
Read moreI was really excited about this place because it is the only vegetarian chinese restaurant in the city. We managed to get a seat on a Friday night with ease.
I’ll start with the food. Here is what I ordered:
Fried soy cheese dumplings: The cheese inside was melting and the sweet chili sauce served alongside complemented these very well. I personally enjoyed eating it.
Scallion pancakes: these were okay, denser and heavier than I was expecting them to be. Nothing remarkable here.
General Tso’s seitan: The sauce was sweet and savory but the seitan was a pain to eat. It was extremely chewy and difficult to break into. You just could not eat it after a certain point.
Golden rings: I was really excited about this because it looked quite different from other things in the menu. Honestly, this was just bad. The sauce was extremely sweet and with the brown rice that accompanied this dish it tasted horrible. Like the seitan this too was extremely chewy. I did not even care to finish this off.
Now about other things. The service was really slow and there was also a very annoying female constantly blowing her nose loudly every time I was about to put food in my mouth. It was quite irritating but I understand that the restaurant has no control over it.
Finally, I think this place has immense potential. Maybe I got too experimental and tried the wrong dishes. The next time I go there (if I do that is) I would maybe stick only...
Read moreVegan Chinese food, with a friendly and accommodating staff. We had only a short time before the start of the play, and they were so helpful. I really enjoyed the mushroom with black fungus soup. The steamed vegan dumplings were superb, a taste, texture, and visual delight. There is a short flight of steps you must navigate at the entrance, if access is an issue. We will be sure to dine there again.
We dined at Su Xing again, several months later, it was delicious again! The three mushroom noodle soup with black fungus was wonderful. The steamed vegetable dumplings had crisp cabbage and more, were beautifully formed, and were served with soy sauce with ginger slivers. Update December 28th. 2024 The new name is Chengdu Center City, the food is still great. The one thing that stands out is there are meat, fish and poultry items on the menu, as well as many vegan and vegetarian options that were there before. The spring rolls were hot and crispy and not greasy. Once again, I enjoyed the three mushroom and black Moss soup. Our party also enjoyed the orange chicken. The under the Sea vegan option mimicked the shape of a fish. The Sweet and sour sauce was delicate and the flesh of the faux fish was crispy and tasty. Still recommended, and we will...
