Hate to be this person, but I just left this location about 2 hours ago, and had the most horrible experience. I've been here countless times, in my 38 years of living and I've never felt more "profiled/sterotyped" in my life. Our server was Kaiden. She came over, took our order, brought back drinks, didn't offer a straw, my partner ordered steak and eggs MEDIUM... Once the food was done, she came to our table with plasticware and said " I know it's plastic, but I'll get you a steak knife." My partner cut into the VERY WELL DONE filet, or at least tried to. The plastic fork couldn't penetrate the overcooked hockey puck and afer multiple failed attempts, we tried to get out waiter's attention but to no avail. Another server was kind enough to notice us looking around and asked if we needed anything. I then responded"yes. May she has an actual fork". The server quickly grabbed a for and asked did we want two sets of silverware. I declined as I was 60% through my meal. Then a light went off... Why were we given plastic. We didn't ask for plastic.... After all, we were dining in and as that thought is consuming my mind, I hear our waiter at the table behind me, giving them silverware. 20 minutes in to our "dining experience" our server walks up to do a table touch and my partner asks why we weren't given silverware. And in the most unprofessional way possible, Kaiden replys "because there wasn't any out. There was none clean." And walks straight away. At that moment it set in what was going on. Now I never mention when I'm dining out that I'm a fine dining server with almost 16 years of experience in the industry. Never would I ever GIVE a TABLE plastic UNLESS it's a request. Knowing that silverware is ran through dish with all the other silverware, be it steak knives or spoons, it hit me that some black pleople ask for plastic. Key word being ASK. As servers, we are never to assume what a guest wants. Especially given the fact that plastic cost the restaurant. At this point, Kaiden walks up and put our folded receipt on the table without seeing if we wanted anything .. refills on beverages, dessert etc. And walked away a saying " this is here whenever you're ready." Needless to say, we wanted milkshakes. I got her attention and mentioned the fact that we weren't finished dining. She took our order and brought the receipt back again BEFORE bringing the milkshakes. This experience felt insane, considering every single other one I've had at this location. I'm ALWAYS a 20% tipper ALWAYS, but today I had to be fair. The service was beyond insulting. She wasn't weeded, or triple sat. The kitchen wasn't backed up. So there was no reason the cold, medium filet should have sat long enough to become well done. The dried up blood was a dead give away. Honestly, I think I may not be returning to this location...
Read moreI dined in once, it was 2015. I was fresh out of prison, so my taste buds thought anything thrown at them was wonderful! Almost 10 years went by and one day my wife said we should order from nifties. I got the filet mignon sandwich along with loaded fries and a cup of chili. I also got a Tiramisu milkshake. My wife always gets a bacon cheeseburger and usually onion rings or fries. She also likes the milkshake, cookies and cream is one of her favorites. We have been ordering from nifty's now for about 3 years and it has to come from Grant Avenue to Bells corner. It's not that far but every time we get the food it is always piping hot and very very fresh. The onion rings are hand-breaded and the steak they use for the filet mignon sandwich is top-notch! The kaiser roll is always fresh and the chili I just had tonight for the first time. I have to say, this is some of the best chili I've had and I've had chili all up and down the East Coast all the way over to texas. This stuff has a little sweet flavor on the beginning and then at the end you get a nice burst of spice. This is exactly the kind of chili that I would want on a chili dog. As a matter of fact, I ordered myself one of them as well. I didn't have room to eat it so I'll have to have it for a nice Saturday lunch. I've had their burger one time and it was also excellent, the meat is very very good. I think it is a little bit better than five guys. And it is definitely better than most of the pizzeria burgers, maybe a little more money but definitely worth every penny. All in all, I would say this Grant Avenue location has some really dedicated employees who have been there a long time. It just shows in the food. You don't get this kind of consistency from a bunch of new people or cooks that are constantly rotating out. The people that are cooking my food are probably treated well I'm guessing, compensated well and working in an environment that they love. I used to be a cook so I know how hard it is to cook somewhere where the employers don't care about you. This quality of food that I get every time has to be coming from a place of love. Anyway, thanks for being one of the most consistent places in Philly to get food. Obviously different restaurants for different food, but if I want a burger or a filet mignon sandwich I'm definitely going here. And the milkshakes are better than anywhere I have ever been including the...
Read moreThe experience was definitely an interesting one but not so surprising because of how people have been acting when they go out to dinner. We showed up for dinner and were put on a waiting list in which we waited an hour, no worries at all it is usual during this time and they are a small place. When we were called to be sat we were sat in between 2 tables that were dining together. The one table was the mothers and they were being quite loud and obnoxious while cursing at the same time. The children were sat at a different table and kept going back and forth to the mothers table. They weren’t wearing masks and they kept getting closer to our table which made us feel uncomfortable. When they got up to leave they continued to walk passed our table with no masks, being loud and obnoxious. The youngest child went as far as to put his hand in our appetizer which made us uncomfortable. My boyfriend put his mask on and asked the host if we could get our dinner to go. When he asked why ,my boyfriend told him we were uncomfortable with the party not wearing masks and they touched our food. The manager caught wind of the conversation and came to our table to let us know she would be taking care of us and wanted to see what she could do to help us stay. So we decided to stay and the manager took amazing care of us. She brought us waters, brought our entrees, she also asked if we wanted our appetizer replaced but we had eaten enough of it before the child put his hand in it. After we finished our meal we asked for boxes and the check. When my boyfriend asked to have his card ran for the cost the manager said it was taken care of. We totally planned on paying because the situation wasn’t the restaurants fault, it was bad behavior by the customer. She went even further to give us a gift card to come back. When we first got there the situation was terrible and we were ready to pay for our food and leave but between the manager and the host Calvin it was a better experience after the group left. We will certainly be back and we are happy that the manager went above and beyond to make sure our dinner was better. We went on Wednesday March 10, 2021 and I am so thankful for the good service they certainly took care of the bad situation. Thank you to the staff going...
