First off, THE ELEVATORS ARE A NIGHTMARE. Backstory... My daughter got married Labor Day Weekend. The majority of my daughter's wedding party stayed at the Loew's due to its proximity to the wedding venue. We were not told that there was going to be 15 wedding parties staying at the hotel that weekend which I know is none of our business, but we were also not told that one elevator bank would only have 2 working elevators (1 working elevator on Sunday) for a 33 story fully occupied hotel. My daughter was getting married on Sunday and she rented the bridal suite (not inexpensive) to get ready in. As suspected, the vendors and the bridesmaids all arrived late and to add insult to injury due to the elevator fiasco, after a 25-minute wait, my 91 year old mother and I had to walk 6 flights of stairs to get to my daughter's bridal suite or we would never get there. Meanwhile, as we were walking up the stairwell, I was holding my daughter's 30-pound wedding gown and my own dress and trying to make sure that neither of us stepped on the gowns or slipped in the process. Suffice it to say, it did not get better the next day when we had to wait for the elevator (1 was working) to get to the brunch on the 33rd floor that we were hosting. Everyone arrived late. To say the elevators are a nightmare is an understatement. ||ALSO LOCK UP ALL VALUABLES. Because the safe in the guest room is awkward (on its side vs. flat so you have to pile things up on a 3 inch base which if you do not shut fast will cause all the items to fall out), I did not put in my new pair of sunglasses. I stuck them in a suitcase which was not locked (my bad). Lo and behold, the sunglasses were nowhere to be found when I unpacked my suitcase. They mysteriously disappeared. I alerted housekeeping but they indicated that no one saw them. ||In addition, not as meaningful as the top 2 issues, when we took our first shower in our guest room, there was no body wash or shampoo in the shower stall containers. Isn't this on the housekeeper's daily checklist? When I left the room, I asked one of the housekeepers still working on the floor if she could replenish the body wash and shampoo containers in the shower as they were empty. When I returned to the room later that day, I discovered it was not done, and I had to call down to housekeeping the following day to get it taken care of, which it finally was.||And finally, I realize this hotel is in a major city, but Loew's should provide better security and oversight at the entrance to the hotel. It is extremely uncomfortable entering the hotel (even during the day but especially at night when the overall population in the street is diminished) as there are unwell people living and screaming (at us) right by the entrance to the hotel. ||The room was clean but unfortunately i can not recommend...
Read moreI had to call 6 times to get the anniversary package amenity. I was told that it was $65 and that someone would call me to set up payment. Days went by, nobody called. I called back again. Nobody had any idea what I was talking about about. I called 4 more times each day leading up to my reservation, and then finally the day of my reservation, hours before I checked in, I got someone on the phone who seemed to be able to add the amenity to my reservation. We get to the hotel, check in, thankfully the strawberries and champagne were in my room. I go to check out two days later, and I'm told "We see you booked through Amex hotel collection, that gives you a $100 room credit. That's great, it covers your $98 food and beverage charge." I say, "What $98 charge? All I had delivered to my room was a bottle of house champagne and strawberries, which I was told was $65." So here we are, Loews Hotel is trying to charge me $98 for a $65 amenity (WHICH I HAD TO CALL 6 TIMES TO GET) all because they saw I was entitled to a $100 credit. No way. That's REAL DIRTY to try to do to your customers. I will think very long and hard about staying at Loews ever again. My wife and I love the spa, which is why we stayed the weekend at the hotel, but between having to beg for a bottle of champagne and strawberries to be sent to my room for my anniversary, the hotel trying to overcharge me for them, and on top of ALL OF THAT, room service refused to clean our room. I left the sign on the door on the side that asks for the room to be freshened up, left $5 on the dresser, and went out for the day. Came back and the door sign was flipped around, the $5 was gone, and our room had no new towels, bed was unmade, and the trash wasn't changed. We saw someone from room service at the end of the hall and asked them to come back and clean the room and they said the sign was flipped and they were finishing up the floor and moving on. Absolutely unacceptable. Loews Hotel should be ashamed of themselves and their staff all around. I wish I could say it was just this weekend because it was busy, but the whole week previous it was an absolute mess as well, trying to get the amenity.
With there being so many other hotels in a very small radius at the same price point, I'd expect this hotel to be a whole lot better than it was. I've stayed at 2 and 3 star hotels for $80 a night and had far superior stays. THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE...
Read moreFor clarity, I stayed here for a conference and thus with the cost being offset by my employer. Normally I would not opt to stay at such a high end hotel, but I also likely wouldn’t be coming to Philadelphia either. All things considered my stay was pleasant and I didn’t have any issues. I deducted 1 star for 2 convenience issues which I found made my stay less comfortable. First, the A/C in the rooms seems to be triggered by the room being physically occupied. So when I would leave the room for a long period, or when I would go to sleep, the room would get warmer than I would prefer. During the day this didn’t bother me all that much but at night, it made it more difficult to sleep as I am a rather warm sleeper and prefer cooler rooms for sleeping. The other inconvenience was the elevator system. The system seems set with certain preferences though I have no way to understand what those might be. I stayed on the 19th floor and anytime I would need to go down, I would press the button and then stand around for a few minutes, hearing elevators go by, and only after a wait would one actually stop, even though you could hear them going by, and hear them dinging. I think this may be specific to the 19th floor since both sets of elevators serve that floor, but it was still noticeable.
Two complaints that did not affect my rating which were more specific to my conference experience; the air conditioning on the conference floor (2) is atrocious. The ballroom seems to have only one setting, which is “turbo cold” or “frigid”. It’s good that the conference only did breakfast each day because staying in there for extended periods of time was miserable. It was the same with at least one of the conference rooms, but not all of them are uncomfortable. The second issue which should be easily remedied is pretty small too. The hotel has a good number of clocks on display, in the halls, one in the ballroom, etc. Why are none of them on time, or even on the same time? They all function because they were constantly on different times throughout the day, but none of them were in alignment and none of them were on time. When you have a giant display piece that is a clock in your ball room, it should be on time… I don’t think this is just a...
