I recently visited One Shot Coffee in Philly and, overall, had a decent experience, though it wasn't without a few bumps along the way. First off, if you’re planning to drive, be prepared for some serious parking challenges. It took me 25 minutes to find a spot nearby, and the nearest parking garage was two miles away! So definitely keep in mind that parking in Philly can be a bit of a hassle and may cause delays.
Once I got there, the cafe itself really impressed me. It’s got a lot of personality, with a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere that makes it easy to see why people love hanging out here. The food was good, and I could tell they take care in what they serve, but there were a few things I didn’t quite like. For one, the beverage names are abbreviated on the cups, which made it confusing. I couldn’t find my order. They could really benefit from investing in a label machine or at least writing customers' names on their cups to help avoid mix-ups.
I ate on the second floor, which has its own unique vibe. It’s definitely a great spot for a chill hangout. However, I did notice a couple of things that could be improved. First, napkins were not readily available upstairs. My date and I only got one, which was a bit inconvenient. Also, the tables weren’t cleaned quickly enough downstairs, meaning there weren’t always spots to sit. It’s something that could be easily addressed with a little more attention to customer flow.
The biggest downside for me was the fact that the second floor closes at 3:00 p.m., which felt like it really pushed everyone downstairs or out the door. The first floor is quite small, and when it gets packed, it can feel a bit cramped. I’d love to see the second floor stay open later to keep those lounge vibes alive for customers who prefer a quieter space.
In conclusion, while I do recommend One Shot Coffee for its great food, personality, and vibe, just be aware of the parking situation in Philly. It can be a real stressor and might make you late, which is something to keep in mind...
Read moreWhile visiting family for a few days in the area, I was eager to find a local spot that had their own thing going on. I love trying out places with full menus and interesting drinks to offer. I actually at first walked right past this place because the snow was in my eyes! It's a local place that doesn't insist upon itself; it's there and it's very very good.
Their breakfast menu is great and very accommodating for vegans and vegetarians. They had a million options for regular and gluten free pastries, it seemed, and everything was delicious. I had the breakfast burrito and I believe the carrot cake, and my boyfriend had the Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich. I've been disappointed in the past with coffee and brunch places where the coffee was great but the food was portioned tiny - this was NOT the case. I nearly had to force myself to finish, it was that much food!
They offered a drink called a "chaggacccino", which had mushroom extract in it I believe. Interested in trying something I've literally never heard of or thought would be a good combination before, I proceeded to order this drink twice a day for several days in a row both hot and iced because it was that good. The flavor profile was perfect. My boyfriend ordered a flat white and the pistachio brown sugar latte, both of which were steamed and sweetened to perfection.
In a time where the city seems to be expanding and changing its identity, walking in here felt very natural and very authentic. The staff were quick with a recommendation and a friendly demeanor. If I lived closer, I'd be there all the time. I'm already excited for my next visit home so I...

First off, the space here is one of the best in the city. You can choose outdoor seating, a lively cafe atmosphere indoors, or a quiet, secluded space upstairs that is ample in size and has super comfy couches for reading and lounging. The upstairs is my favorite.
However, they have a $10 credit card minimum. To me this is unacceptable in 2017. With merchant companies like Square and technologies like Apple Pay, there is no reason to not accept digital payments for all transactions. Ditch your legacy high cost credit card processor and move into the 21st century. Lots of people share my sentiments on cash payments, and you definitely lose business because of this.
So now that I've been forced to spend a $1.50 fee to use your (in)convenient ATM machine to buy my cup of coffee, you don't offer a refill price for customers that wish to have their ceramic "for here" drip coffee mug refilled. Again, lots of coffee shops do this. So now I'm only going to have one cup of coffee, and move on, instead of 3 or 4, which may have worked up my appetite to buy a snack (= more $ for business) but instead I left.
This would be my go to coffee shop probably on a daily basis if they were more accommodating with their payment acceptance policies. I can get over the no refill price, although there should be one.
So overall a great coffee shop with an awesome selection of seating and atmosphere, but with archaic and crappy digital payment and...
