We came in for Italian bread (which they were already sold out of) but were amazed at how good the tomato pie looked. The place is small so it’s a very poor set up for a long line. A guy who got there after me decided to jump in and order before me. I’m not one to cause a scene, though, so I just let it go. Then, of course, he took all of the pepperoni pizza that was left. We decided on getting to plain slices and two sausage slices. The boxes are way too small for 4 slices of pizza. Instead of providing a box that actually fit our slices, she just continued to show them in. The box didn’t even shut by time she gave it to us and the top was crushing the pizza. It was a little frustrating to have to walk around shopping with a half opened box of pizza when they could have literally just given us a larger box to fit them. Then, we got home and the pizza nears the crease of the lid was completely stuck the the top of the box. So all of the cheese and toppings ripped off and stuck to the box. For the fact that this was really the only piece with a decent amount of sauce and toppings, we were a bit disappointed. The pizza was good at the end of the day but I wasn’t really satisfied with the service and presentation of the...

Don't be fooled by this little shop entrance. This bakery is filled with history , character, and women power 💪 in the front + multiple Louis Sarcones baking behind the scenes 😂 it is a 5th generation Italian bakery started in 1918 with pizzas, Italian cookies, Italian baked bread/goods . More than 90 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Too tempted to grab this before lunch that day 😂 . And of course, we needed to try their Cannoli! Packed with cream in a crispy shell (they fill it fresh to order).
As you can see it's very simple, with a few chocolate chips. Nothing too fancy unlike the modern Italian bakeries. Shell was very crispy , good bubbles/aeration. Cream was not too sweet, with nice dairy flavor . I could eat 5 of these at once
Service was slightly rude but expected with an authentic Italian business haha
Can't wait to try their famous tomato 🍅 pie though!

Read moreOn a recent visit to the Italian Market in Philadelphia, I decided to try Sarcone's Bakery.my purpose was to find a tomato pie that was similar to what I used to enjoy when I lived in upstate New York.
This is a specific dish. It's not a pizza, and it's not a tomato pie that you find in Trenton. It is simply a slab of dough that is covered with a thick sweet tomato paste. The paste is so thick it can't really be called a sauce. Also there's a light sprinkling of grated Parmesan cheese.
If you have never had this kind of a tomato pie, I would recommend Sarcone's for this. I liked the pie that is made here. I bought three pieces to take home which I ate over the next few days.
sarcones appears to have some excellent bread as well. I noticed many of the people in the bakery with me we're buying the bread & rolls. I recommend that you visit Sarcone's the next time you're in the...
