I really wanted to love this hotel but we won’t liked it . The things that would make us love it are all completely fixable and that is why I’m a little dissapointed. It’s a beautiful character historic building and it’s really well located for exploring Philly particularly as a first timer.||Positives|Our room (102) was in the carriage house. It was specious and the furniture was modern. (Some of the other rooms have furniture which is old styled and I’m not sure if those rooms would be so comfortable but that’s a matter of taste). The evening staff member who greeted us was friendly and helped us with luggage (there are no elevators but we knew that ). Pre communication was helpful - I had e mailed and asked for some restaurant recommendations and they were super helpful. We needed some laundry done and this was managed easily and we appreciate it.||Neutral|The breakfast space can get over crowded and is possibly staffed which means that waste piles up. The environmentalist in me hates all the plastic on the individually wrapped items. Why why why is America so focused on using plastic at every opportunity!! While I understand the wrapping thing for hygiene items like the fruit bowls could have been in crockery not plastic. We were not informed of the hours of the on site restaurant and if it had a bar to which we could take advantage of. I did see a sign at breakfast but didn’t understand it. ||Negatives |Our room wasn’t serviced one day. We had to ask for replacement amenities including toilet paper. The latter was refused as ‘we hadn’t had a delivery ‘. I was shocked! Go and buy some from the corner store but don’t deny your guests basic hygiene requirements. The availability of staff members was limited . We would often wait and give up if we had a question or a need. Then when we checked out we couldn’t get a taxi. The staff member found a scrap of paper. Rang it. Said it didn’t answer. So we ordered an uber ourselves but if we hadn’t been technically competent we would have been stuck. It was a...
Read moreInitially our first stay was pretty good and the hotel staff were accommodating. We decided to go back to the Morris House and this was due to a medical procedure that I needed to have and I needed access to a freezer in the suite. The staff assured me that Room 101 did not have a freezer and when I asked for a refund they said I could not get a refund. I was basically forced to stay at the Morris House because I would lose out on $800 for a couple of days. When we arrived at the hotel we discovered that the suite did indeed have a small freezer, but the staff did not bother to look for us although we did tell them it was absolutely imperative we have a freezer.
During our stay we had the displeasure of being greeted and talked down to by two female front desk personnel. One even tried to kick us out of our room so she can do a walk through with a different guest. After the surgery my husband ordered food and the front desk employee simply refused to keep the delivery for him as we were in the cab on our way back from my surgery. Nothing was made easy, accommodating or enjoyable.
The only person at the Morris House that I can honestly say was good to both myself and my husband was the overnight employee that watches the grounds. He was made aware of my surgery and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. In our opinion he the best employee that works at the Morris House.
if you have to stay at the Morris House, I would recommend looking at your options. There are plenty of boutique hotels and even penthouses that are bigger and most likely less expensive. We won't return to the Morris House as it is not worth the price...
Read moreThe great location, interesting history, and friendly staff are the best amenities of this unique hotel. The grounds are also very pretty and there is a beautiful little courtyard area where guests can relax and dine in the evenings. We felt fortunate to find affordable availability when we booked at the last minute. However, once we got settled in our room, we began to think that perhaps our room was still available because of the flickering lighting issue in the bathroom that was never repaired while we were there and became a bit of a nuisance as our stay continued. Honestly, we had considered staying an extra day but decided against it purely because of the flickering light issue. As an historic home-turned-hotel, expect creaky floors and some noise from other rooms as well as no elevators. And while much of the history and furniture of the original home have been preserved in the common areas, this period style of decor has not been carried over into the guest rooms (or at least our room) and that is unfortunate. In spite of these few issues, our family would definitely recommend this hotel as an affordable option in a great location for...
