Not worth the money or your time. The product they produce is inconsistent and it takes forever to get your order. Often there's only one person on food prep, which means they put eggs on the flattop and walk away to make a bagel with cream cheese and drop bagels in the toaster. If you're taking your order to go you get to stand there and watch your eggs get brown and dry on the griddle. They also cook the bacon in a giant pile which means half the strips are dry like leather and half of them are closer to raw. Sometimes you get a tiny bit of cheese and other times there's so much cheese it's tough to eat the sandwich with your hands.
Beyond the food, it seems like they are not staffed enough for the level of business, everyone is moving at sloth speed, and the guy on the griddle is a walking health code violation: Never changes his gloves even if he's going from pork to turkey, used his phone, wiped the counter, his apron, or his face. He also uses his filthy apron to wipe off knives and on many days no one is wearing a hat/has their hair secured.
The worst offender is the older brunette woman behind the counter. She's nasty to the staff, I've watched her fill the "fresh squeezed juice" using a commercially produced gallon of juice. She's dropped packaged food on the floor then bagged it and handed it to a customer. I'm not surprised they have staffing issues the way she speaks to people, rolls her eyes at them, or forces them off the register (because they are moving too slow), only to work at an even...
Read moreMost incredible bagel spot in Philly! The bagels are made in a wood burning oven that makes the bagels crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle, talk about mouth watering! It’s common for bagels to sell out, so get there early! Today I came at 2pm on a Saturday and they were completely sold out of bagels! (Yay Spread!) but I had the heaviest crave for their tuna melt and drove really far to come get one. As they were cleaning and closing up, Roger (a sweet bagel master that had been working since 6am) gave me his bagel to settle my crave. Not only did he make me THE happiest customer, but I also am going to continue being one of THE most loyal customers. I am sharing my story because it’s not my first or only story with the customer service here and I want everyone to experience how dope their team is, how delicious their food is, and how awesome their customer service is!
Another time I came to their Fishtown location before work and it wasn’t open, even though Google said it was. I then came back for lunch and they still weren’t open. I was pretty sad and decided to drive all the way to the location on Chestnut and 36th (30 minutes) to find out their grill was off and they weren’t able to make the egg sandwich that I desperately wanted. Karen (a lovely bagel queen) introduced me to the tuna melt and needless to say I fell in love with this place all over again!
I am in awe of their customer service and delicious food. The lines out the door and 30+ minute drive are...
Read moreI eat at Spread fairly regularly since it's close to my job. Out of the two locations I frequent (Chestnut and Walnut near University City), this location is remarkably bad at being consistent. For example, today I asked for extra bacon on my sandwich, and instead recieved none. This is a common issue both with their online ordering system and orders at the counter! And only at this location! So if you ask for something else on your sandwich, honestly, it's 50/50 whether you'll get it. There are a few employees here I like to see, but otherwise the rest seem like they aren't paid enough or are overworked enough here to not care about how they serve the food. Also noteworthy is pickup order foof safety. The bagels, if toasted, are hot and then set onto a marble counter which saps the heat right out of them. That's concerning when you have cooked eggs or meat on your sandwich along with any cheese. And the layout of this location leaves their entrance congested with people all the time. But the reason after a few months of buying here I'm finally giving them a two star review is the really remarkable level of mistakes that get made on your order, even when it's just the one sandwich. Ridiculous when the orders are prepaid, and with such long lines for this location, I'm sure almost no one gets any recourse becauce they need to get to work or to class. I'll instead go to 2401 Walnut before I go back here any time soon for...
