Talk of the Town Food Market — Restaurant in Philadelphia

I ordered my a small porridge and small ackee 20 min prior to arrival, when I got there my food wasn’t ready. I waited 10 min to get my food, when I realized my food wasn’t made yet, I asked the lady to give me a medium ackee instead. She then give me a medium porridge instead of the ackee. I then explain to her that that’s not what I asked for. She then said I never specified what I wanted so she assumed it was the porridge. I then Said I wanted a small porridge at this point instead of the medium and it was fine that I kept the small ackee. She said she didn’t know how to refund my partial payment. She then give me the small porridge and give me one dollar and some change. When I asked her for my receipt, she took my small porridge out my bag and give it to another customer and said I should wait so she can make me a new one. I explain to her that it wasn’t nice to take another customers food from their bag and sell it to someone else. At this point she’s handling money with no globs, handling people food and being unsanitary and rude. She then refunded all my money and put my ackee back for the next person and making her comment about being an American. Well let me be clear, it doesn’t matter where you are from. Customer service and sanitary precautions is a must when running a business especially dealing with food. I said I wasn’t going back to this place of business when I called one day and I explain to one of the ladies that I have someone in a wheelchair and she said they couldn’t service us. I could not fit my family in the door with the wheelchair, so I asked if I can be accommodated by bringing to food out the door right in front of the business and she said no. First of all, you can tell the staff is NOT from Philly. They're too nice. Much different from the competition next door.

I used TOTT for a small dinner I hosted since my Caribbean food game in the kitchen isn't that great. I kept it simple with jerk chicken, curry chicken, and rice and peas. As they suggested when I called days ahead, I came in and ordered the day before and chose a pick up time. I arrived at 5:04 and my food was waiting for me and ready to go. That's good business.......prompt service.

How was the food? As a person who grew up on authentic West Indian cuisine, I know good food when I see it. The food was spot on and worth the drive from one side of town to the other. The jerk chicken was moist and VERY flavorful with just enough spice. The curry chicken was so good, I could drink the gravy alone. I didn't....... I'm just saying. All of my guests wanted to know where I ordered from because they were impressed. As was I. The only issue I had was transporting the food back home. I wish they would have given me a box because the containers kept sliding in my car and the curry container still leaked even though the lady at the counter and myself checked to make sure it was sealed. All in all, I'd definitely recommend TOTT and I'll be back. My bad for not taking photos.

Update: I forgot to mention the juices I order while I waited. The pineapple ginger and strawberry ginger were on the money. I wish they had the watermelon...

I called to place an order and was left on the phone for 34 minutes. So I went to place my order since calling the order in; was not working. After telling the situation to the person at the counter about to place the order, she picked up the phone, hung up the call and she was busy with customers (no apology). Thought it best to speak to the owner about the situation as a matter of customer service, wrong idea. The owner then says she is stressed and began shouting that her worker is doing the job of 3 persons. Not my fault! Telling me I dont have to come back to her restaurant (I won't)!
