The Kettle Black in Philly is an absolute gem! This isn't your average bakery - it's a haven for bread lovers and pastry enthusiasts alike. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked bread and the sight of perfectly golden croissants. Here's why I can't get enough of The Kettle Black: Bread that dreams are made of: Their naturally leavened breads are truly exceptional. The crusts are perfectly crisp, giving way to a soft, flavorful interior. The variety is impressive, with options like malt-and-oats, raisin-walnut, and even activated charcoal bagels that are as delicious as they are Instagrammable. Pastry perfection: The pastries are equally divine. The croissants are flaky, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And don't even get me started on the scones – they're crumbly, flavorful, and the perfect accompaniment to a cup of their expertly brewed coffee. Vegan-friendly delights: What truly sets The Kettle Black apart is their commitment to inclusivity. They offer a fantastic selection of dairy-free viennoiserie, so everyone can indulge in their incredible baked goods. Cozy and inviting: The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to grab a coffee and pastry or to pick up a loaf of bread to take home.

Read moreWe decided to visit this bakery as soon as it opened as the last couple of times we tried they were already sold out of bagels. Also they are only open Thursday through Sunday from 8 AM until they sell out. After finally making it there on time, I completely understand why. The bagels are great, it's not a secret, and it's worth braving a cold morning walk.
I got the pretzel bagel which was absolutely incredible. It was perfectly fresh, soft yet chewy, and had just the right balance of salt and flavor that made every bite a joy. In fact, the texture and taste were so amazing that I didn't even think to snap a picture of it until it was all gone. Also there was plenty of cream cheese.
I look forward to my next visit as I want to try some of the other varieties of bagel as well as the other bakery items. There was a pretty good looking croissant I didn't think I had the room for this morning. If you’re in the area and want a great bagel, I highly recommend getting there early. There will be a line and it, and the bagels,...
Read morebest bagels in philly!!! there, I said it! anytime I eat a bagel from literally anywhere else I think to myself “wish this was a kettle black bagel”. their vegan pastries are my favorite. they’re better than the pastries from the all vegan bakeries in philly. I said what I said! their bread is my favorite in the city and their vegan milk bread is sooo good. I literally just eat slices of it with nothing on it. Marc and Claire make everything themselves so everything from the kettle black is incredibly consistent and perfect every time! their funfetti croissants are so beautiful and my favorite treat ever. apart from me loving the food Marc and Claire make, I love to support them because it’s so pure and obvious that they’re total bread nerds that love what they do. they’re not here to start a chain or produce such high quantities that the quality goes down, they bake because they love it. I feel like there’s value to that, and that thought just makes me a little extra happy anytime I get to have a little...
