We found this restaurant on Google and it had good reviews, it is located where Cici's Pizza used to be. Hubs and I were seated quickly and we could sense some tension happening with the host, but it was not directed at us. Initial impression was a clean restaurant, decorators love orange. Chips and salsa followed, there was reminisce of different colors on the chips which was off putting until we recognized the chips were multicolored, though we did not have a variety in our basket. We both enjoyed the accompanying salsas. We ordered a jimica and coffee, the server offered creamer options which was pleasant. Coffee cup unfortunately was not clean. It had lipstick and the plate it came on had cilantro so we had to ask for another coffee. They must not have understood the cup was not clean because we did have to ask that they remove the second cup later from our tab and no refills were offered. We also were not offered water so we had to ask. Hubs ordered a bacon omelet and I ordered a veggie skillet with no mushrooms. I unfortunately received an omelet instead of the skillet and had to send it back. We saw two orders go back while we were there and another coffee in addition to mine and there seemed to be some back and forth between our server and the cook. My husband waited to begin eating until my food arrived, the server said he would be back with my toast but we both ate our meals incomplete. My toast did not come and the meals did not have any of the traditional pairings such as butter, jam, Chulula, Ketchup. Nothing was offered and nothing on the table. We also did not get to choose the bread type. Our server was friendly but had too many tables to tend to. He unfortunately was having to be in 3 areas at one time. There were large families which left us unattended. And the errors and unclean items only duplicated his efforts. Another server showed up towards the end and we informed her of the missing toast, she did bring a plate with 1 butter and 1 jam for 2 slices. We boxed the toast and remaining items and took it to go, walked up to pay without a check in hand, explained the coffee situation, paid and left. Our server apologized to us on the way out. Overall the food was not bad but it would be hard for me to recommend with all things considered. I would suggest that the server write things down so responsibility can quickly be assigned between the server and the cook. Teams need to support each other. Get a new dishwasher or verify that there is not food on the dishes before presenting to the customer. I found it challenging to eat when my mind would wander about if things were clean...
Read moreHorrible customer service I have ever received. I have never had a waitress respond with an attitude before! Like everrrr!! It all happened because she forgot to write down what kind of meat I wanted so she came back to ask me what type of meat I wanted on the puéblanos chilaquiles order. I then asked her, “oh well what kind of meat do you guys have” She said we have shredded beef and shredded chicken where I ask for what kind of beef do you have as in like Asada? Ascecina? Adobada? But she didn’t know and said, “pues nose” with attitude and throwing her hands in an irritated way like we were dumb by asking that question. She then went to ask another waitress what type they had and she said “shredded beef or chicken” as well. First of all, there is no logical reason for someone to talk back to a customer! Second, she didn’t need to make hand gestures like she did in a rude manner! Third, she needs to educate herself if she doesn’t know their own menu. Fourth, we had said it was our first time there and that was no way of welcoming us in their restaurant. Fifth, we had asked for agua de melón but yet she gave us limonada instead. Sixth, we had asked for sunny side up eggs on one order but the eggs were over cooked. Lastly, both waitresses were just staring at us as we ate and talking among each other like if it’s going to make it better to stand there and gossip rather than apologize or see what they can do to fix the service we received. Since they didn’t apologize, we left! We did not complain or talked back to her because I know a bad review will be more effective than causing a...
Read moreWas my first time here and I was impressed with the delicious food. The employees were super friendly too.
Ordered a "Machaca burrito enchilada style" and the flavor was exquisite. Their machaca recipe is made with some eggs mixed in it and that made it even more amazing. The enchilada sauce was also super flavorful and delicious. Chips and salsa were some of the best I've had in Phoenix.
The key words here are "FLAVOR" and "SPICE". El Pueblo nailed them both. Everything was super flavorful and memorable, and they didn't skimp on the spice level. They offer items that are a perfect amount of spice to satisfy the taste buds of chile-heads like me. But then they also have some items that are a bit more mild, so even people who can't handle spicy food should be able to find something they can enjoy
I have been to a few Mexican restaurants in the valley that make some bland food, probably to cater to some of the old snow birds and transplants who aren't as used to spicy food. So it's always relieving when I try a new Mexican restaurant and they have a lot of options that keep the flavor and spice level authentic. But like I said, they have options for every spice level so don't worry. Just ask your server what's spicy and what's mild. El Pueblo does it the right way, caters to everyone not just one...
