My first visit to a first watch turned out to be one of the worst breakfast experiences I've ever had. My wife and i are from Tucson and stayed the previous night in Scottsdale for an event. On our way out of town, i decided to try first watch for the first time.
We arrived around 915am on the morning of August 27th. The restaurant was about half full, not too busy. We were greeted and sat promptly. Our server had another table who was seated right next to us. She took the table's order next to us, then proceeded to take ours. My wife ordered an omelet and i ordered a skillet with an extra egg on top.
About 10 minutes later, the table next to us got their food. I'm not sure of the exact time, but we probably waited another 10 to 15 minutes for our food, despite the fact we ordered at the same time as the table next to us.
Finally our food came, with no other visit from our server before then. Not even to assure us the food would be coming soon, despite the wait. The wife's omelet was fine, but my eggs on my skillet were extremely overcooked. I ordered them over medium, and they came out over hard. None of the yolks were runny at all. I pushed my plate aside, waiting for our server to return so i could tell her what was wrong. Almost 10 minutes passed before she came back and I could tell her that my eggs were overcooked. She apologized, and took my plate to be remade.
10, maybe 15 more minutes passed and still my second plate hadn't arrived. By now, my wife had finished her plate, and i hadn't even eaten. Once again, no return visit from the server with assurance or apology.
The second plate comes, and the server walks away. My fork was taken with the first plate, and i was not given a new one. Sitting for a few minutes, my wife finally got up and walked over to another vacant table to grab me a new set of silverware. I cut into the new eggs and they were extremely undercooked this time. The whites were almost completely runny.
By this time, we had been at the restaurant for almost an hour and i still had not eaten. To make things worse, our server never refilled our water, which remained empty for about 20 minutes. I told the server about the new eggs being undercooked and she took the plate away. We were already behind schedule to get back to Tucson, so i opted to take the check and cut my losses. The server delivered the check and said that my meal was comped.
Frustrated at our whole experience, we walked to the front to pay. When asked how our meal was, we explained what happened. We were told that when my first plate got sent back, the server had to ask what over medium cooked eggs were. I'm sorry, but If you work in a predominantly breakfast restaurant, you should what it means when someone orders eggs over medium. The cashier at the front told us our entire meal would be taken care of because of what happened.
My biggest problem with what happened, was the lack of communication and manager presence. The whole time we were there, i never once saw anyone who i thought was a manager. During our whole "meal," i think our server visited our table 3 or 4 times. Never once did a manager come over and talk to us. As someone who has managed many restaurants and worked in the industry for 20 years, communication can go a long way when something goes wrong. If they were to have just talked to me, it would have made things way better. I get that mistakes happen, but when responsibility isn't taken, it makes me, the paying customer, feel like i...
Read moreAt first arrival on my own, I was placed at a table that turned out to be in what I would call the Family section of the restaurant. I'm a single adult male, and no children were with me, but this is where I was seated.
After waiting 5 minutes for some type of server to offer me coffee as it was breakfast, and maybe some water, I had to give "the eye" to the host who seated me as nobody came to check in. At that point someone who turned out to not be my server came over and told me that my server was in the bathroom, and that she was happy to pour me some coffee and bring me a fresh pot. Someone needs to tell people that there needs to be a better reason than "being in the bathroom" to be shared as this is a restaurant and will you know it just seemed kind of trashy to say that. But that very nice person who again was not my server in the end took my order for a breakfast burrito, which I had at a different location and found to be terrific!
In a normal amount of time, my actual server arrived to set it down and ask if there is anything more I needed. That's when I noticed the typically yummy and appreciated fruit cup held one Pineapple Chunk, one grape, and two small blueberries, which was significantly less than my visit to a different First Watch location. Frankly the container looked empty and it was sad to look at LOL. The rest of the food was tasty and was just fine temperature wise.
After I made it obvious I was finished by placing a napkin on my plate I was not offered the opportunity or asked if there was anything else I may need, I was simply presented with the check and offered thanks. I was going to purchase a cinnamon roll to-go, so when I requested one, my server was surprised and got one going for me, however that is typically done.
After waiting 10 minutes for a cinnamon roll that was probably already made, I got up to leave and got in line to pay without it. At that point the restaurant host returned with a large bag and my small cinnamon roll, and I thanked him.
After leaving a small tip at my table, my server was at that point checking people out, and I paid my bill and left no tip on my card. I did not get any thank you, and I did not get any eye contact upon leaving the restaurant.
Just a very disappointing experience that led me to leave this, my very first restaurant review, so I apologize if it's too detailed and looks a little out of sorts.
There will certainly be no return to this First...
Read moreMy wife and I went to this "First Watch" after an appointment in that area. We were seated at a table where we first met Victoria. Right away we liked her, especially for her customer service. Very polite and really made us feel very welcome. We have eaten there several times and always request Victoria (If you visit and have the opportunity to be served by her, ask her what nickname I gave her (i.e based on Royalty). Recently she told us she was going to become a trainer for "First Watch" and she was very excited about this opportunity. In my life, I have trained both in public education and the corporate world for over 50 years and recognize a great talent in a student. I have to tell you that with her customer service skills she demonstrates and practices she will prove to be a very valuable asset to "First Watch". She will be transferring her valuable skills to the new hires and basically using that knowledge to "Pay it forward" for both the new hires and Corporate. They in turn, hopefully, will practice her skills and add value to the bottom line. While my wife and I will miss her, we both know she will do an excellent job and by her attitude will have found the job that she really likes! Remember, "If you find a job you love, it's not considered a job at all!" Oh Yes, BTW. The food was...
