I decided to take my significant other out to lunch. She heard how Garcia's Mexican Restaurant was really good from her co-workers. We then decided to eat there for the first time. This was my experience in a nut shell:
The Music being played was Cuban and Puerto Rican. The booth seating was horrible! I'm not fat at all but the leg room was very cramped that I had to sit with my legs open. Thank God I'm not a girl wearing a skirt! The Salsa was just tomato chunks. Even after requesting a hotter salsa it didn't have the blended taste of the spices as hot salsa should. The Arnold Palmer ice tea had more lemonade then tea. I guess that explains the bit of brown floating around in my drink. The green corn tamale tasted like sugar was added to give it the sweetness flavor. The rice was well cooked. However, it was way too peppery. The red chillie sauce on the enchilada had no flavor at all. The refride beans tasted like they were out of a can. Not once did our server come over to our table to check on us for anything.
I was so disappointed in the quality of the food and the service that was given. Even though her service sucked I did tip the waitress well, because she needs to make a living too. However, that is one restaurant that I will never return to.
People will rave about the food. However, anyone that knows how Mexican food should taste would not approve of eating here.
What's the secret in making great Mexican food? Everything cooked in a restaurant should be made from scratch and with flavor. Not made out of a can!
However, the biggest secret ingrediant in making great tasting Mexican food is; your cooks need to make it with LOVE. Your food was just cooked.
I'm am not a food critic nor do I claim to be. I am not a very picky person when it comes to Mexican food. I know that every family has their own recipe in cooking. However, I do know the difference from 'Excellent Quality' and 'Never Again!' Your restaurant hit the 'Never Again' catagory in my book. And by the way, my mother, grandmother, and aunts all worked in award winning Mexican restaurants in downtown Mesa and Tempe for over 35 years not to mention cooking at home and family barbacoas.
In closing, the only money you can rely on to pay your restaurants bills are from those people who don't know the difference from great and poor quality Mexican food. If you had to rely on peoples money, such as myself, to survive then you would go hungry!
Oh and before I forget. The only thing good about the whole ordeal was that the food came out nice and hot. Guess your hot tray it...
Read moreHostess was quite rude and talked her way out of a tip.
We have been here before, and had a good experience with the food and the service.. this time that was not the case sadly.
We walked in at 9:15. Knowing that they were closing at 10, we asked for menus to order for takeout because we are respectful of restaurant staff. The hostess (older grumpy woman) was rude from the get go and seemed bothered that we walked in at all. We asked for menus and if it was ok to sit at a table while we picked our order (they weren’t busy at all). A server came over and took our order. She was very nice. I asked if we could have the complimentary bean dip and chips while we wait because we were hungry, which she didnt seem to have a problem with. The hostess brought over the dip and rudely dropped it down on the table. Then when our food came, the hostess felt the need to scold us about asking for the bean dip as she rang up our order, and said something along the lines of “its not cost effective for the business”, even though thats what they offer people when they dine in..? She really made such a big deal out of it, when we both bought full meals. Just not a happy woman at all, and will certainly make me think twice before going back here again. She Probably shouldn’t be the person greeting the customers, maybe dishwasher is a better fit for that attitude… We were planning to tip as well even though we were not doing the full sit Down service, but the hostess made it clear that she didn’t want any tips...
Read more5/28/17 around 1pm. The place was slow and not busy for a Sunday as other Garcia's are. Now I know why. Worst experience ever!! For the 3rd time visit was horrible again, kept giving chances but no more!! Had to keep asking, as it wasnt being brought, for napkins, water and dont dare ask for more salsa or its an all out offense to the Manager Jerry ....I believe. Wanted to charge for salsa when our food came out to use for your entrees.. He threw the tray when he walked off and crossed his arms in anger. He raised his voice at us so all can hear, JUST because we asked for more salsa when our food came. Didnt want to finish our food so cancelled the dessert order, asked for boxes to go just so we could get out of there. Food was horrible! Never touched my loaded nachos until I got home and had to throw them out anyway they were so bad. I never should have paid for them nor should by sister have paid for her order as it was gross!!. This is the worst Garcia's I have ever been too. DO NOT ever waist your time and money at this place unless you desire horrible service, attitudes and an out of control manager. The waitress didn't get an order right and instead of making it right she argues with my mom. REALLY? This place hasn't changed in the couple years I have tried it and seems it never will. ...
