I used to believe this was one of the best breweries in Arizona. After my most recent visit I’ve decided it’s not. It’s THE best brewery in Arizona. They’ve always presented one of the best Stouts anywhere. They’ve always been adventurous in a solid good way, brewing solid based beers. But lately they’re pushing it up to a whole other level with excellent Belgian style cherry brews that are not just excellent beer but a statement about the art of brewing. In state known mostly for IPA and lagers they’re venturing into some of the most daring and challenging terrain in brewing. They tend to lead with sours, which while excellent aren’t really my thing. But their stouts and now Dubbel Krieck as well (in addition to basic lagers and IPA) takes the whole thing to another level and provides a wonderful facet under-represented in Arizona very successfully. The facility and ambience remain, as they’ve always been, charmingly low key, unpretentious and relaxing. I was hesitant to post this because they’re probably one of the ‘best kept secrets’ in the Valley and I’d hate crowds to interfere with my special brewery, but folks who really like beer and know something about it owe it to themselves to stop by and raise a pint or two here. Don’t expect Roosevelt here though. This is Grand and it’s character and charm are more fundamental and authentic. Roosevelt has its own charms but people who really like beer and a more real and authentic street experience should absolutely love this place. I can’t recommend Grand Avenue brewery too highly and I’ve sampled from Hungary to the Czech Republic to Holland and all over Belgium not to mention every brewery I could get to in Arizona, Florida and Colorado. When it comes down to the beer Grand Avenue Brewery can play with the big boys. ...
Read moreAmazing food, family friendly specialty craft beer bar. I stopped in while cruising the car club that happens on Saturday nights to grab a couple munchies. The staff were all friendly and happy to be there. The service was prompt and adequate. I requested a smoked potato and some beer cheese soup. I'm a bit picky, so I didn't want the option of the potato with soup around it in their fancy style. The chef, Sam, came out and discussed my order at my request and made it fast and right. The owner was circulating with guests and spent some time talking to me as well. They both have a combined gift that makes this place great. The smoked potato was far better than I would expect. I usually waste alot and never eat the skin, but I was scraping every last piece off those skins, it was such a great unique flavor. The soup was served nearly and topped with what Sam said were in house made croutons. The beer flavor was mellow and present. The consistency was ideal and the cheesey flavor shines through. The crowd is mixed with those who appear to be well known and then those who just stopped in like myself. All seem to be treated equally. The atmosphere is cool calm and collective. There's a variety of table heights and barside seating and a seating area with a prime view of the cars outside. The doors are garage style and open, but the breeze is nice and cool. Parents with their kids are enjoying meals. There was a local artist who had some pictures on the wall I was able to meet and talk to briefly. This was by far more relaxing than most any bar or restaurant with a bar that I have visited. I'm full, but will come.back again for their smoked pulled pork and stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon next time. Thanks Grand Avenue Brewing Company for the relaxing place and...
Read moreThis brewery is worth a visit, and if you're a local, this should be your go-to. There's thoughtful food from their kitchen, tremendous beers from their drafts, friendly and fun customer-oriented service, and a quirky, intimate atmosphere.
There is no deep-fat fryer here, so expect an unusual variety of brewery kitchen grub, all of which looks tantalizing. Only tried the broccolini dish, and it hit the spot. Beer variety was good and a heavy mix of Belgian styles along with the others. Both of the sours, Grand Framb and Tamarindo, were excellent.
Hours at this place are limited, so time your arrival for the best experience. The service itself is strong. When asked what size pours were available, the server grabbed the 16- and 10-ounce glasses from behind the bar, and visibly demonstrated them. Extra points! There's also an element of play and silliness here that plays enjoyably right into the service. There are rubber chicken all over place, so that should give some hint.
It's a small neighborhood brewery. Mostly locals here, and everybody is friendly. Easy, free street parking. There might have been a parking lot, too? Well-signed and super-easy to find. Inside is intimate, inviting, and inspired.
Definitely recommend...
