We've lived in the area for over ten years and have always meant to stop by this place. Today at noon, we finally decided to check it out. The receipt said The Corner Market but it looks like they're the same restaurant as this as the food was prepared there.
Upon walking in, I noticed a display case with baked goods and bagels. Initially, everything looked good, but upon closer inspection, many items appeared old or stale. I asked the employee if everything was baked today. He stammered and explained that the baking staff wasn't in that morning, so some items were from yesterday. He then pointed out specific items, claiming they were baked that morning, including some pistachio nut muffins. Despite my doubts, we decided to split a muffin. My husband ordered an Italian Sandwich, I ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad, and we both got iced coffee drinks.
While ordering, a friendly woman in the back asked if we had ever tried their bagels. My husband mentioned knowing the person who made Chompie's bagels, and the employee in the back says that the same guy who also makes their bagels. The girl in the back asked the front guy to give us a free bagel sample and we picked out the cheddar jalapeño bagel. He just put it in a bag without asking if we wanted it cut, toasted, or with cream cheese, which we found odd. We paid over $47 for this meal and were asked for a tip at the counter. After paying, we received the pistachio muffin and bagel and sat in one of their booths.
The overall restaurant had a foul odor, like body odor, and felt generally unclean. The muffin was dry, crumbly, and lacked flavor, clearly not baked that morning. The bagel also tasted stale and unappetizing.
Our drinks arrived next, and I had to add sweetener to mine because it was so bitter, but it was probably the best item we received.
A woman brought our food from the South side of the restaurant. The dressing on the side looked weird and was tasteless, the chicken was lukewarm and looked old, and the lettuce was extremely wilted, limp and partly black. I called the staff over and showed them. A more mature woman with red hair, possibly the manager or owner came over and after I had showed her my lettuce, she became visibly annoyed and tried to blame the wilted lettuce on the hot chicken. I disagreed, insisting the lettuce was not fresh. With an attitude, she asked if I wanted something else, so I ordered the Avocado Toast.
Meanwhile, my husband found a hair in his sandwich. The bread was stale, and the overall quality of the food was terrible. Between the smell, the staff's attitude, and the lack of freshness, I lost my appetite at this point. The Avocado Toast was a disaster—the bread wasn't toasted, the avocado spread was the worst I've ever tasted, and it was topped with alfalfa sprouts that I refused to eat, fearing contamination.
I didn't feel comfortable addressing these issues with the manager again, as it was clear they weren't interested in honest feedback. I asked for a to-go box, and the counter guy, now with an attitude, handed me a small one. When I asked for a bigger box, he handed it to me dismissively.
The only decent service we received was from the woman in the back who offered the free bagel, but the overall whole vibe was off. I will never return to this restaurant. I wish I could get my money back because I ended up throwing away the bagel and toast. This was one of the worst food experiences my husband and I have ever had. There's probably a reason the parking lot is usually empty—I suspect their staff parks in front to make it look busier. I honestly believe the Health Department needs to inspect this place because the food and cleanliness were appalling. I wish I had taken photos but I was so upset I, didn't.
If I were you I would...
Read moreI'm Originally from New Mexico. Been in PHX for 12 years now. In those 12 years I have NEVER found good New Mexican Food here. My husband was looking for a good Burger and started his search for something different than his norm. Well with everything going on right now it's scary to go out and get something to eat. Today before our drive started I got yet another call of a Family member passing from covid. Not the best. Well we went to Hatch It. Again me being New Mexican i was really skeptical going in. So I walked into a super cute place. I ordered the Green Chile Santa Fe Burger, 2 Green Chile Pork Street Tacos, Fries Loaded and a Green Chile Pork Burrito. I placed that order and walked next door to get a couple drinks. I go to pay and see they also have a Green Chile Sour Dough. I work for a Company that cares nothing more than good Client Service. I started chatting with the owners son. We exchange stories. What I loved about that conversation was he was super friendly and passionate about his place. I got my food and went on my way. Now I'm sure your thinking why did this lady share alot about her family that alot of families are going through right now. I took a bite of the burger and fries and street tacos and I honestly started crying. Every bite you can tell it was made with love and passion. The Green Chile Pork was a 10. The Burger was SO juicy and such a nice pico (spice) to the Chile that was also a 10. The Fries loaded (Green Chile and Cheese) was a 10. I got home and tasted the Sour Dough and OMG I won't ever eat another Sour Dough again unless it's From Corner on the Market. You made my saddness go away for that moment and got a taste of home. Bravo guys on a delish Menu and also turning this hardcore Green Chile Lover into a believer of finding good New Mexican food here in PHX....
Read moreFirst thing you notice upon walking in...THE SMELL. like a sewage tank was leaking or something it was not appealing and we should've turned around and walked away, but we stayed. We ordered their most popular item, the Sante fe burger and it left alot to be desired. The meat tasted old and was not even seasoned well. It was smothered in slimy avacado creamy stuff and very wet chiles, creating a goop that was not at all pleasant on the palate. The fries were so plain, no seasoning at all and the ketchup very watery and runny. When we asked about the ketchup, the staff said to shake the container and it should mix it...it didn't do much. The decor looked dirty and broken and it was not very inviting at all. My husband ate his, only because we spent so much and he didn't want to leave it knowing we spent our money but I couldn't stomach to finish mine. A staff member did ask on our way out how it was and while I was just going to leave quietly I couldn't lie and said it wasn't good at all and we won't be returning. She asked why and I shared that the meat didn't seem fresh and the ketchup was runny and fries bland and she expressed it was a popular item and they've never gotten that feedback before, however I went to the reviews here and see many similar reactions. I should've read these first and heeded the warnings. This place should clean up that septic smell first and work on their menu items and freshness. I'm surprised it passes any inspections and even more surprising to us, is having an almost 5 star review. We had also used the bathroom upon arrival and it had a broken toilet paper dispenser, the light switch was on the outside of the bathroom, which was odd and it...
