I recently had a chance to eat at one of the food vendors at Phoodery, a collection of food vendors ( i.e. brick and mortar âfood trucksâ ) in Phoenix, Oregon that came recommended, specifically Peruvian Point at the Tap. Unfortunately the experience left me disappointed and frankly surprised. After ordering their Anticucho de Pollo ( Grilled chicken marinated with Peruvian spices, served over organic spring mix salad ) , I was given a restaurant pager that failed to correctly notify when my food was ready. After 15 minutes, I finally went back to the restaurant to ask what might be taking so long. At that point, I was told that they were trying to notify me, but obviously their pager wasnât functioning correctly. At that point I suggested that they probably needed to remake my meal, since it had been sitting there for over 10 minutes getting cold, which they agreed to do. I asked how long that would take, and was told just a couple of minutes. I returned about 4 minutes later to collect my order. Unfortunately, what I was served was quite disappointing. Although most of the chicken was tasty, there were pieces included that were obviously undercookedâŠi.e. raw. Additionally, the cilantro rice had obviously been cooked hours ago, and was overcooked and mushy with little cilantro flavoring and clumped together ( Chipotleâs cilantro rice is far better than this attempted version I was served! ). The salad included was the only thing that lived up to its description. I ate the pieces of chicken that werenât undercooked, about 1/4 of the rice before I gave up on that, and all the salad. I decided to go back with the pieces of raw chicken to show the vendor, not to ask for any compensation, but to simply advise them that they might want to advise their cook to double check and make sure any chicken they were serving was fully cookedâŠ..and thatâs where things went south. The woman who appeared to be running the restaurant wouldnât even look at the raw chicken pieces I was trying to show her, and simply stated that âwe donât serve raw chickenâ. Even when I asked her to look at what I had in hand, she just repeated the same thing againâŠ.suggesting that what I was telling her was simply impossible! Any restaurant that doesnât even consider the possibility that a customer may have been served a less than adequate mealâŠ.let alone one with less than fully cooked chicken, should, in my honest opinion, be given a wide berth. One would hope that Peruvian Point at the Tap would review their practices for food preparation, and listen to customer feedback that is only trying...
Read moreThe first week you were open we went and it was amazing! We had truffle pig burgers and even though someone took our food and we waited for a remake, the atmosphere was so fun and inviting. Cool green grass and kids playing, plenty of shade. We went again on Tuesday and we were both severely disappointed. Peruvian points anticucho De pollo was dry (never happens at the truck!!) and wok star chicken teriyaki was also dry and not the normal food truck menu. Went to sit down and all the tables were already without a food grade seal on them which means they were stained with food and oils which attracted so MANY bees. Itâs hard to even think they were clean. We started upstairs and opened an umbrella at the cleanest table and sat long enough to each take a bite when the bees swarmed into the leftover food oils on the table. We looked up to see the top of a neighboring tables umbrella get caught in the wind and one of the spike things came down on a womanâs head. She didnât see it coming. She insisted she was ok as she tried to close the umbrella. We closed our umbrella also and went back downstairs to get out of the sun and bee area. The table by truffle pig was open and cleared off but also grossly food and oil stained already. Neither of us could finish our meal because the chicken at both places was so dry. I feel like the food trucks move so much food through that they never have a chance to have food sit and dry out. I hope they figure out the balance here because I am not excited to return and Peruvian point is a favorite of mine. The grass was already dead and closed off so shade seating is limited. Suggestions for massive improvement are discreet bee traps, epoxy your tables, place real pins in the umbrellas so they are secured in place and provide real shade. Or replace with swivel head umbrellas or shade cloth over the upstairs area. The phoodery has such potential but the outdoor seating area products purchased seem cheap, wobbly and not made to withstand the massive crowds and...
Read moreEdit: Holy moly, look at the owner response. They also never addressed why they are not charging what they say on their menus, just chose to personally attack me. This says all you need to know about these owners. Just look up the Rogue Valley Times article, nuff said.
Original Post: Let me start off by saying the concept of this place is great. But the execution is very lackluster.
Nothing to say about the food except that prices are insane. $1 per extra thing of sauce? $16 meal that doesnât even come with a side? No thanks Iâll just continue to go to common block or any other decently priced establishment in the valley.
Second, there are so many families that come here. That inherently isnât a bad thing, until you see that they treat the space as a playground, with kids running around unsupervised and crazy. My wife and I almost got hit by 3 different sets of kids while trying to enjoy our meals, whether it was them throwing things in the air or playing tag around us. Apparently this spot is the new babysitter.
Third, Iâm fairly certain the Skout Taphouse location here is engaging in deceptive business practices. Their prices on their menu DO NOT match the prices in the POS system, and when confronted the bar staff look at you like itâs your problem, not theirs. Another thing is I believe theyâre just serving all their beers in 12oz glasses despite having 16oz listed as most of their options, making a lot of money off the top potentially defrauding consumers. I plan to bring in my own 16oz glass in the future to either confirm or deny this. Nothing gets me more upset than swindling people out of their hard earned money.
So yeah, honestly this place has potential to be great, they just need to hold parents to a standard and not charge an arm and a leg for...
