Our last experience here wasn't great. We had a table for 5 with reservations. It took almost 3 hours to have dinner! We did arrive at 6:00 on a Saturday night, but this place has been in business long enough that they should know what Saturday night in a restaurant is like.
Drinks: The first round was correct, but came out a little slow. Not too worrisome, since it's still happy hour and dinner rush is starting. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. Drinks were taking WAY to long, and anytime one person asked for a drink the waitress didn't ask the rest of the table if they needed anything. We all spent most of the 3 hours with empty drinks and empty waters. They lost much revenue.
Appetizers: we ordered 3 appetizers. Wings, pretzels, and Buffalo chicken dip. It took a while, but they brought us pretzels and potstickers. Looking back, we know we got someone else's appetizers, but we didn't know at the time because we all thought someone else had ordered the potstickers. MUCH later they brought the wings, chicken dip, and more pretzels (which we refused, as we'd already had them). THAT was out order, so we know we got someone else's initially.
Service: by this point the waitress is avoiding us as much as possible. Running through the room, not making eye contact and stopping as little as possible with one item at a time. She mentioned at one point that "both the bar and kitchen had tickets piled up". At the end of the night she apologized that we couldn't have had a better experience and said she couldn't return more frequently because she was "too busy getting yelled at" (we suspect by other customers, not management, as nearly everyone nearby us was also having issues). This all seemed like the perfect storm of understaffed (waitstaff, kitchen AND bar) and bad management. I feel like everyone was trying their best, but were set up for failure.
Dinner: there was about an HOUR gap between ordering dinner and when it was brought. For that hour, we had no drinks no contact with our server, or any manager apologizing for the delay. Nearly everyone else in the place had left by then. The food finally arrived, and at least it was correct. I can only speak for myself but the food was nothing to rave about. I ordered a sirloin steak with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were warm but not hot, flavored well, but we're REALLY thick. It was difficult to swallow them. The steak was a great cut of meat, cooked perfectly, but not seasoned at all. ...
Read moreReally disappointed with our experience at Walnut Grill in Wexford on April 1st.My mom had seen a Facebook post (and there’s even a sign in their own restaurant by the bathroom!) saying that on the first Tuesday of every month, first responders — like police officers, nurses, etc. — get a buy one, get one free meal up to $20.
When we arrived, we asked right away if they were doing the deal. The hostess didn’t seem thrilled we asked, seemed unsure, and had to go check. She came back saying yes, they do honor it. Great.
But then when our server came to the table, he had no idea what we were talking about either. He went to ask, and after we had already ordered, came back and told us it was “only for veterans.” Meanwhile, my dad had gone to the restroom and saw the giant sign clearly stating the offer was for first responders — police, nurses, etc. — exactly like we had asked about multiple times.
When we got the bill, my mom politely asked to speak to a manager just to clarify the policy (not even being confrontational) — and we were told the manager was “too busy” to come over. Instead, they just randomly took $15 off our bill — not even the full $20 that the sign stated — despite the fact that we had TWO first responders at our table and had hoped to each use the deal.
Honestly, it wasn’t even about the money at that point. It was the way the whole situation was handled — like we were being a bother for even asking. No one seemed to know their own restaurant’s promotion, and no one was particularly friendly or accommodating.
Super disappointing experience — especially at a restaurant that advertises support for first responders but doesn’t seem to communicate that to their staff at all. Definitely left a bad taste in our mouths, and unfortunately won’t be rushing back...
Read moreBy far one of the top 5 worst dining experiences I've ever had. This was maybe the 4th time I've been to Walnut Grill over a 4 years period. Previous visits were ok. Food was a good variety service was average. Not quite a place to rave about and go back to regularly but ok for something different from time to time. This time we went for a lunch. From the start it was bad. The hostess sat us at a dirty table and then told us to move out of her way so she could wipe it down..after she had brought us there to sit instead politely letting us know we could wait a minute for her to prepare the table. Then the waiter comes over and takes 10 min to bring drinks and another to bring my husband the beer menu. Then we wait a firther 15 min or so for a our food orders to be taken..my husband actually had to request he take our order. Once the food order was in the food took nearly 45 min during which time we did not see our server one single time. Once we got food we were not provided silverware. We asked our server but after 5 min of staring at our plates i got up and got some for our table myself.. Food was OK. Mine personally was bad I got the crab cake and it was not very nice but everyone else seemed happy with theirs. Once we finished our meals the server took awhile to check on us and we requested take way boxes which took another 10min. We asked for the check and waited 10 min before we saw him clearing tables ...us still with no check so my husband went and asked him again for the check. After all this the server was completely oblivious of the fact we had to wait for literally everything we asked for. Extremely mediocre experience. That's my very last time going to...
