First ever visit to a Longhorn steakhouse.
Mediocre at best. Went there with a party of four for my daughter's birthday. I will say that the appetizers we ordered, the stuffed mushrooms and the spinach dip were delicious.
That said. This IS after all a steakhouse and you would expect that they know what they are doing. I ordered a ribeye medium rare and the smell and taste were delicious. However, the meat was so tough and chewy that the steak was very hard to eat. I tried cutting it in different areas of the steak thinking that maybe it just had a spot in the meat that wasn't as tender as it should have been which does sometimes happen, but it didn't matter where in the steak I cut the piece from. It was tough and chewy.
I didn't want to spoil my daughter's birthday celebration so I didn't send the steak back. However, if I would have been there on my own or just with my wife, I would have returned the steak to the kitchen. My daughter's friend also ordered some kind of steak. I am not sure exactly what kind it was but I could tell that she was also having difficulty cutting and eating the steak. She did remark that it was hard to chew.
As far as I'm concerned, this is unacceptable for any steakhouse. When you get two steaks at a table of four and they are both tough and chewy. Well, that tells me from my experience working in restaurants over the years that they are not buying quality cuts of meat. You can season them and cook them perfectly, but if the quality of the meat is no good to begin with, the final product is not going to be any good either. Since they are charging quality prices for their meat it should be great.
My daughter ordered a chicken breast dish with some kind of topping over it and she said that it was very salty tasting. I did not taste it but I will say that she does not use a lot of salt so it could have been that it tasted over salty to her.
This visit the meat certainly was not quality, and I won't be going back a second time to see if it's any different. If you want a quality steak look elsewhere. On the plus side and there were few of those in this visit. Our server was good. My drink from the bar was delicious and the appetizers were really good but I could get good drinks and appetizers anywhere. I went for steak and was sadly disappointed.
One thing of mention I'd like to add When we received our first appetizer and we unrolled the napkins and took out our utensils. The knife was a big large steak knife with a serrated blade on the tip. I remember remarking to my wife. I wonder what kind of a steak they serve here when they give you a knife like that to cut it with? Well I found out and so did my daughter's friend. Avoid this establishment if you are a...
Read moreAt the start it was good service, nice waitress friendly. My family and their friend arrived prior to me. They went ahead and ordered for me. When I arrived I ordered a water. The waitress took longer than typical to bring the food. Probably about 18-20 minutes after I got there. Total approximately 25-28 minutes. So when we received the food first we had to point out to her that we didn’t receive the salads. She was honest and said she forgot to put them in. However, when she brought the salads she only brought 2 salads saying the other 3 people’s food doesn’t come with salads. Very disappointing. She even admitted that she didn’t explain it very well to start. We continued on. Just an fyi we ordered 2 New York strips which were excellent. A chicken and I think 2 lobster tails, which were great as well. The lobster tails were fairly small.
Here’s where the service went downhill… However the filet was awful. It seemed to taste old and not at all as it should be. When the waitress came back we asked is this a filet? And she responded “oh umm that’s a sirloin or no a umm yea it’s a sirloin”. So we told her it was supposed to be a filet if they can bring a filet. She said “okey no problem let me go talk to the kitchen”. Moments later the manager “Q” comes to the table next to us and asks “is everything good?” Then proceeds to our table and says “is there a problem?” We told him the waitress was going to flip the steak. And he responds “I can assure you that is a filet, no I can assure you that is a filet”. And walks always without even a proper conversation. Literally just like that. We didn’t even ask for a manager. So when the waitress returns she asks if we want anything. We tell her we would like this plate to be taken off the bill because it was a bad cut and that if the manager wants to return we can speak to him. So of course “Q” returns and this time squats down and has a much different tone. This time he listens to us as we explain how the steak was a bad cut. And how we didn’t even ask for a manager to begin with because the waitress had told us she would flip the steak resolving the problem. But we told him that now we would like to have the dish taken off the bill because we are ready to leave and don’t want the steak. He agrees and takes it off the bill.
I have to say as good as the food is at longhorn. I’m not sure I’ll be coming back to that location. The waitress didn’t fill the drinks a single time. In fact didn’t even check on us once. Other than getting the manager involved prior to us even requesting it. Also her not explaining the dishes and specials correctly at the beginning was the...
Read moreWhile Longhorn has been my favorite restaurant for years, this was the worst experience I've had at a major food chain. It Started off well as we were seated quickly. Our server was attentive and welcoming. I ordered the outlaw ribeye like I've always done...I asked for it to be cooked medium..it arrived medium rare at the absolute best. They took it back to recook it and it come back over cooked and swimming in grease. They brought me another sweet potato and thanked me for allowing them to fix it..my wife ordered a salmon dinner with rice and potato soup. The soup was brought out when my dinner was, the steak. 45 min later the server informed me that her food would be coming shortly. I told her to make it go bc we had to leave..10 min later her for food came bagged and ready to go. When we went to pay we noticed the check had two soups listed. One as a main dish and the other with an upcharge to her salmon dinner. The server did mention there would be an upcharge but we did not order a soup separately. After 5 mins of trying to explain what we had ordered, it finally clicked and she removed the main soup. Im not one to complain but this was the absolute worst experience. The wife and I hadn't been able to eat out for months due to our newborn arriving in September. We finally had a babysitter and a gift card we got for Christmas. It was a complete waste. There was no effort to atleast comp some of the meal. Not even my wife's meal that never came until an hour later. Very...
