EVERYTHING BUT THE BISCUIT...specifically the BOOGIE BOARD [aka HUGE Breakfast Burrito] , along with bacon bits, and SAUSAGE GRAVY really hit the spot.
This Burrito had tons of stuff inside, including Cheddar Cheese, Eggs, Bacon, and their famous Sausage Gravy ...inside and not outside [which is critical to preserve the "crunch" crispy factor]. Since it lacked any veges other than potatoes, it needed a bit of a boast, at times, from either a touch of hot sauce, pepper, or a brief small dip in the supplied Salsa.
At first, I was taken aback by the inclusion of Potatoes, but after eating it, I really enjoyed the added bulk. It helped dilute the salty bacon and sausage sauce. The creaminess of both the sausage sauce and the potatoes contrasted nicely with the crunchy outer shell. In a way, it was more Panini in style.
As I have learned from my obsessive watching of the cooking channels for zillions of hours, or via my own cooking, it would be nice to add some other elements that either complement, or contrast with the main dish. The addition of some colored Green, Red, or other Peppers would have been nice, as would some Shitake or pre-roasted Garlic.
Of course, my first adventure would not be complete, without trying some version of their signature biscuit. I opted for a humble plain biscuit with ordinary butter. The biscuit was quite fresh, moist, & large, but was quite crumbly. Since it broke apart with only butter, I could not imagine how it would hold up to more. I did see others get the more standard biscuit and gravy, and basically all you saw was sausage gravy "boat". This gravy was quite generous with both cream & sausage bits, and I could see that the appeal may be similar to the wildly famous [infamous] local clam chowder place..except that this had enough sausage. Since most of my past biscuit eating has been generally limited to canned or in a gourmet restaurant, I was not prepared to appreciate the density, nor sweetness of this type. I do prefer my biscuits to be light, fluffy, and flaky...akin to a croissant. This was not that. Apart from the sweetness, I found it a bit bland & dense. I think I would have favored a sour dough type taste, along with a flaky texture, but I can see how others could love this "Southern type".
Since I was blessed to come at an off peak time, I found the service to be more than excellent. Since I was sporting a local hat, they asked if I was local & was honored with a locals discount...which was super-nice.
The stools and chairs are rather spartan, but even though it was a tiny place, it had a fresh air ambiance. The City [who wanted ~$70k] effectively "denied" their request for a cost-effective patio, which even made the local rag. While I sat by the window, I could see & hear people with kids, change their minds, when they saw the relative lack of seating.
In terms of service, at least 3 different service people asked if I was doing OK, during my meal, which was much appreciated. I overheard the owner/manager talk with some others about a new menu that would include chicken. I bet that Fried Chicken, Waffles, plus that hearty sauce could give them an opportunity to stay open longer. It would also be nice to have some vege choices and maybe some wine tasting to round out their menu. I will definitely be back [or have my wife do a take out] for the breakfast burrito.
If you left out the potatoes, this burrito could be "Paleo-type".
If you are counting calories, forget about it, and get a funny T-shirt.
This place is all about fast fresh well prepared comfort food, complete with great service, and generally hefty portions, for a reasonable price. I doubt that the other nearby "breakfast" places can compete with this, since they can be rather slow & quite mundane.
My local vote goes to either a version of the
BOOGIE BOARD or...
Read moreEver since we first came here, this is a mandatory stop when visiting SoCal and headed home. It is a plus that they are open at 6am. This recent visit, they had a sign stating they will move in August to what was formally Giuseppe's express. The good news is, it's only 1 block up depending on where you're coming from. An easy 2-3 minute walk from current location.
Today was pretty busy but service was fast. Below are additional items the we've tried and recommend.
Pablo burrito: This is a must order for me each time we come here. It's the easiest to eat. Portable, handheld, and mini. I half this with my husband so we don't end up in a food coma for the drive home.
Boardwalk bites: Perfect bite sized dessert. If you love the biscuit, you'll love this. Wrapped in cinnamon and sugar, it's better than a churro. It is buttery and soft. It gives you a warm feeling in your heart and belly.
Pismo pier: Perfect size. I usually add a sausage. A sausage patty with sausage gravy and biscuit just makes everything better . People on tiktok keep calling this a pirates cove, just fyi so you don't end up with the wrong thing.
Gnarly Biscuit Sandwich: This is hefty, guaranteed to knock you out. It's not a sandwich that you can hold. Everything you'd want and more. Egg, all the meats, cheese, potatoes, and sausage gravy. For me this is something I'd have to share or have to split in 2-3 different portions.
The pablo: I have ordered this by mistake mistake because I forgot to say burrito lol. Still good, it just has potatoes in it as well.
Totally Beachin' Sammie; I usually add sausage patty or bacon or both.
You can't go wrong with any of their items. If you love the food here and happen to be in Visalia. They have a sister location...Butter +Milk Biscuit bar.
First off, I'd like to apologize for taking so long to write this review. It was our first time here and we came the weekend before Christmas. The place was busy and had a chill vibe to it. There is no indoor seating, only outdoor. They have a huge spread, which made it hard to narrow down my choices. We were only passing through and headed back home. The dude who took my order was super nice and patient with me.
I ordered:
The pablo - This was amazing and just what I wanted. It's like a chorizo & egg chimichangas with a side of gravy. That hit the spot for me. I didn't need anything else but a nap after that. It was the perfect size for me. I only ate one and shared the other one with my hubby for the drive home.
Sausage, biscuits, and gravy were amazing. I wish I had tried it fresh instead of warming it up when we got home. It was still delicious, though. I love that it was smothered all around in gravy, and it was a good-sized biscuit. Not the mini ones you get at some places.
Natalie's strawberry lemonade - Refreshing and simple. Nothing more, nothing less.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience. I even purchased a sticker. I recommended to the guy that they should make magnets as well. I can't wait to come...
Read moreI am so sorry to have the right such an awful review. We came here October 4th 2025, my birthday to have birthday breakfast. I was super excited to visit this place, we've never been before and we were starving! It was pretty busy and usually that's a good sign, so we place our order and we ordered the gnarly biscuit gnarly potatoes and french toast LOL could not decide what I wanted to eat. We find a table outside at the very end of the building. There is a built-in bench that sits against the building itself. The bench is pretty high up and you're sitting pretty high up over your table. On the other side of the table there is a single bench seat. My husband sat on the building side and I sat on the single bench. Our food arrived and we were both very excited to eat and try their food. I scooted my bench up to be closer to the table. As soon as I sat my bottom down on the bench I fell backwards and bangs my head on the railing. Other customers came up to me to check and see if I was okay my little dog took off because of the commotion someone brought her back to me. My husband help me out right away. Banged the back of my head pretty good and instantly has a knot. My head was throbbing and I was embarrassed hurt shocked, all of the above. One of the server kids came out shortly after to see if I was okay and offered me a bag of ice to put on my head. Naturally I was upset, I was emotional I was hurt. My husband was very upset telling the young man that they can't have furniture that is faulty and somebody could seriously get hurt. He was very protective of me and worried about me, the young man took that bench away and brought back another one. My husband told me don't sit on that those are cheap and he didn't want me to get hurt again. Both of our appetites were ruined pretty much but we just bought all this food and we were still kind of hungry so we started to eat, the gravy was so incredibly salty it was inedible. I tried scraping it off and eating what I could and trying to eat some biscuits we really didn't eat much of any of our food. It was not good at all. I should have said something more to the staff but at this point I would just wanted to go back home and lay down. I was in no mood to hang around. We left our food there pretty much untouched and before we left my husband wanted to look at the bench he replaced. As soon as he put the bench on its side and one of the legs just snapped. I really hope they do something to fix this. I really wish that they would have made more of an effort to take care of us and even file an incident report in case something would have happened to me. I'm not a young kid anymore and getting a head injury like this at my age...
