Ocean Palms Motel — Hotel in Pismo Beach

UPDATE 2025: We just can't say enough good things about this motel. We definitely recommend and will continue to come back. UPDATE 2024: Came back and stayed in different room this time. We loved it again!! Outdoor area also now has a fire pit & lots more. I cannot comment on the bed comfort, as we now travel with our own mattress topper for back issues. We will absolutely be back next year! 🙂👍 2023 REVIEW: Definitely recommend & We will ABSOLUTELY be back!! The front desk staff is so helpful & kind. Excellent location, clean rooms, free wi-fi, awesome water pressure, light blocking curtains, pet friendly with large & clean pet relief area. Love that the mini-fridge has a little freezer, too! It would be nice if there were hooks in the bathroom to hang towels, but there are hooks in the bedroom area. They have a nice outdoor seating area with chalk for kids to draw. {Update 2025: lots of outdoor tables & chairs now!} I hope they will add a picnic table in the future since so many of the restaurants we went to were full & we had to get our food to go, but the Adirondack chairs were really comfy. For the price, this hotel was great! It’s very close to the 101 so that is a pro if you wanna get to other spots fast and con if you don’t wanna hear the cars passing through at night. You need to call a specific number from 9p-9a. That was fine for us cause we didn’t really need anything. The beds were comfy. I’ve had bumpy lumpy way less comfy beds in more well known hotels. The floors felt like they weren’t clean. The sink and toilet and shower were all in the same room, which can be hard if you like your privacy but it didn’t bother my 5 yr old or husband. The walk to pismo beach is very close. A lot of crosswalks but close I’d you wanted to walk. We ended up driving to bring our stuff closer. You tend to pack more when a 6 month old is involved. The fridge was nice. Glad there was a microwave. The wall near the pismo picture was scuffed. The air conditioner was nice to have esp after being after hot solvang for one morning. Nice tv! Spot for my daughter to sit and eat. Bench for luggage. There was a hook with 3 hangers, iron with board, hair dryer, coffee maker, shampoo and conditioner, lotion, body and hand wash. Hotel is very easy to find and in a great location. Just a few minute quaint walk to the sand, it lies blocks from Pomeroy and the Pier (great for avoiding crowded and frustrating parking situations). We booked the afternoon of check-in, and had no issues when arriving at the front desk. It was a bit late, so we were met with short conversation.

The room was surprisingly more upscale and clean than I originally gathered from other pictures and reviews. The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows felt like clouds. The King Bed room had a mini fridge (useful with leftovers), and a nice Vizio TV. The bathroom amenities were clean and upscale.

Having lived in the area for many years previous to this visit, this is a place I will definitely be staying again. Can't beat that ocean air! We were also lucky enough to see some bioluminescent phytoplankton glowing in the sand and waves at night, which of course is...
