If you want fish and chips without lots of fanfare and with a little bit of an attitude, this is your place.
I had some really shishi fish up the road the night before, and it was good. But I wanted some more down to earth fish and chips place. Well this was my spot.
I got to the restaurant which has only parking on the street and can be challenging. But it is downtown Pismo Beach. After finding parking I walked into the store. There was a small line and seemingly nowhere to sit. It's a small joint with lots of different fish items and a table or two. But the prices are extremely reasonable, and people seem to excited to eat there.
I found the fish and chips, the item I was seeking since the day before. I ordered the halibut fish and chips, and found a small table by the window.
The fish came out fairly quickly with two nice pieces. They have a three piece option but I didn't feel like I could finish that. Indeed, that was the case. The two piece was plenty.
First bite, crunchy and yummy inside. Second bite, more of the same. I wolfed down the fish and the chips and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. After my meal, I looked over the menu and realized there's lots of good options, including grilled fish that seemed all reasonably priced. All the fish came straight from the nearby ocean, and was indeed fresh.
One of my new favorite fish places. Definitely recommend for all, but expect to compete with lots of tourists.
Would I go back again, for sure.
You done real well El Pizmo...

The rock cod n chips were fried to perfection. Batter stayed on every bite and was seasoned well. The fries... extra crispy exterior and stayed crispy.
The clam chowder, oooooweeeeee. Perfectly flavored and seasoned. The supporting ingredients like the potatoes and celery are just that and cut to similar small sizes. The heroes clam and bacon in this case were left to twice the size. Deliberate choice and I love it. You can visually see all the fresh herbs (parsely, oregano, maybe a little thyme) so it's packed with flavor. Just under $10 for a pint? That's a steal considering the care and labor pit into it.
The owner, I presume, was watching me struggle to pick a hotsauce and recommended their own homemade habanero and serano. Great flavor and heat.
The space is nice. Small yet welcoming. The most impressive, especially for small places that fry stuff openly... no greasy smell or feel. Very well ventilated, and that's impressive; if you know, you know.
Yeah, you want...
Read moreWhen I go to the coast I always want to get fish & chips. So today we were in Pismo Beach and we were looking for a place to eat, so many great places to eat there. I noticed a new place that uses locally caught fish (cod and halibut) and that caught my attention, I had to check this out. They have a good menu, besides fish & chips they have fish tacos, poke bowls, ceviche and other fish related dishes. So I got the 2 piece fish & chips and ceviche. The ceviche was really good, not to salty and the right amount of lemon with a lot cod and and tomatoes, it was not really spicy. Then there was the fish & chips, they tasted great, golden brown, clean flavor, no fishy taste, batter cooked all they way to the fish. The cod was moist and flavorful but the 2 piece I got were small, it was 11 dollars which is cheap for fish & chips but they gave me a lot of fries. I would have preferred less fries more cod. I gave them 4 Stars because the fish was small but I give the flavor of the...
