Let's start with the building, which is a beautiful old bank. The decor and all the old architectural features are really nice. It has very high ceilings and an industrial look. Exposed stone walls, renovated original windows, and of course pendent lights with Edison bulbs. A little cliche, but nice.
We made a reservation for 7:15 and were seating shortly after arriving. The first thing I noticed is that the noise level inside the building was almost unbearable. It made it really hard to have a conversation with the people at our table. It was almost impossible to hear what someone on the other end of the table was saying. It was only six of us, so we were not that far apart. But being as the walls are exposed stone, every sound was echoed and amplified.
We ordered a bunch of appetizers and were happy with them. The onion rings were out of this world. The buffalo shrimp and buffalo cauliflower left a little to be desired. The shrimp was a little over cooked and the buffalo sauce they use didn't really have much flavor. The cauliflower get's soggy real fast, so the first couple you eat are good, then it's downhill from there. However, the sweet potato french fries with cinnamon and vanilla marshmallow sauce were OUT OF THIS WORLD! It was kind of like french toast with marshmallow fluff.
We have heard good things about their burgers so 4 out of our party ordered different burgers. They were nice enough to make a blue cheese burger for my wife that wasn't on the menu. The odd thing was that two of the 4 ordered their burgers well done and the other two didn't specify cooking temp. The 2 that ordered well done received a bloody raw burger, and the other 2 that didn't specify received a medium well burger. The burger was so raw that we had to ask them to take it back for more cooking. The 2 other entrees were quesadilla and mussels. Both of which we were enjoyable. All in all the food was pretty good, nothing to rave about other than the sweet potato fries.
Now the most important thing... The place is VERY well kept. The bathroom was immaculate, which if you read my other reviews is quite important to me. I believe you can tell a lot about a restaurant by how they keep their restrooms. Everything was clean and orderly and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Although the food wasn't life changing, it was a good value for the money. All in all it was a...
Read moreI'll start off by saying the food was good. I got a BBQ pulled pork sandwich and enjoyed it. Everyone I was with seemed to enjoy their food as well.
The drinks were also good. I got a strawberry margarita. However, I never got a second drink (and neither did many of the people I was with) because the server just didn't come back once he had brought our food out.
It was kind of weird, because it wasn't that packed, but when we paid, we called the manager over and asked about whether tip was included because we definitely weren't gonna tip on top of that if it was included (if it wasn't included we would have tipped but we didn't want to give the dude a huge tip for doing nothing). The manager, affronted, called the server over and put us on the spot. We had to explain that he basically didn't come back to ask if we wanted any drinks or more food or anything. He said something about how he did or didn't make eye contact and that's why he didn't come back to the table (?) even though it's literally his job to come back to the table and see how we're doing.
Afterwards I don't think we saw the dude again. The owner, or manager, or whoever she was, cleared our table and then we left.
All in all, it was a wild experience. However the place is really nice, the atmosphere is good, the food was solid and the drinks (limited though they were) tasted good too. It's possible that if we had gotten any other server I would have given 5 stars, but haven't gotten such terrible service and then having the manager take the side of a dude who basically did not do his job just made for a really...
Read moreMy family went to see “The Reindeer Who Saved Christmas” at the Pitman theatre today. Afterwards we decided to go to the Merryman Pub for the first time for lunch. There were 10 of us and we walked in behind another group consisting of 8 people. Both of our groups made it very clear we did not have reservations to the host, they were able to accommodate both of our groups with what seemed like no issues. We were taken to our table by an older lady in their company sweatshirt, short brown hair, glasses on her head, (who I later found out her name is Peggy) who sat us and told us to enjoy our meal. Our servers were amazing and very attentive, even though the pub was filling up fast and very busy. We ordered, our food came out quick and decent. Fast forward about half way through our meal, here comes Peggy over to our table and says to my mother , and I quote “Next time you need to make a reservation because this was someone else’s table and we gave it to you” , then proceeded to rush us through the rest of our meal and ask if we need boxes.
Now I understand we did not make reservations as this was a last minute decision for lunch but any one of these employees could have easily said “I’m sorry but we have no openings for your party” and we would have just as happily went somewhere else. Instead we were rudely made to feel as though we were inconveniencing Peggy … as we were signing a $250 bill!
We will NEVER be coming back and will make sure others know how unprofessional this encounter was.
