Edit: I found a concerning health report for this restaurant. Most of the issues were resolved in the reinspection, hence the 3 stars, but I'm still concerned about the initial violations. WITH THIS BEING SAID, the food is DELICIOUS and the value is phenomenal !

Some violations from 3/13 MEDIUM RISK* -In the walk-in cooler, a container of cooked chicken was cooling covered, and was 60F. Chicken still within safe cooling parameters. Corrected - chicken uncovered and spread into shallow container during inspection. LOW RISK -No cooling charts available at facility. Larger quantities of cooked chicken and fried chicken observed in walk-in cooler. Blank cooling chart left with facility

HIGH RISK** -In the top section of the prep cooler on the cook line, an insert pan of tofu was 44-48F. Stated to have been stocked recently. Corrected - tofu relocated to bottom section of unit. -In the top section of the prep cooler on the cook line, a small portion of recently cooked eggplant was stored on a plate, on top of insert pans, and was 68F. Corrected - eggplant relocated to bottom of unit. LOW RISK -Shrimp is thawing in the third bowl of the 3-bowl sink. Shrimp is still frozen.

HIGH RISK** -A bag of broccoli pieces was located in a box previously used to store raw eggs. Corrected - broccoli removed. -In the walk-in cooler, fried chicken is stored in a box previously used to store raw chicken. MEDIUM RISK* -In the 1-door reach in cooler on the cook line, a container of loosely wrapped raw pork was located on the top shelf, above uncovered cooked vegetables and uncovered cooked shrimp. Corrected - cooler rearranged to store raw meats safely below other foods.

HIGH RISK** -Employee observed cutting raw peppers with bare hands. -Employee observed touching cooked sausage. -Employee observed preparing raw mushrooms with bare hands. MEDIUM RISK* -An employee was drinking a beverage out of an open coffee mug during ins

HIGH RISK** -A soiled knife is stored on the magnetic storage rack above the prep cooler by the walk-in cooler. LOW RISK -The microwave has accumulated old dried-on food debris. -Food in the process of preparation (potatoes, cooked sausage, etc.) is stored on the clean drainboard of the dish machine.

As of 3/19, the restaurant has fixed many of the issues but still has a few problems with cooling food, plumbing, (lack of a) certified food protection manager, garbage, utensil contamination...

Because the issues were fixed quickly, I'm not super concerned...However, the fact that there were so many problems in the first visit makes me uneasy. I'm going to wait for the next health inspection before I...

I really love good, “authentic” Thai food… I saw good reviews for this place and I noticed that it’s got a Cambodian flare, so I gave it a try on a weeknight. Service was excellent! Very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The venue is beautifully decorated and very nice! The menu is pretty interesting, with many items I had never heard of, so I assumed they might have been Cambodian.

I tried their C6, Moarn Chha Kroeung dish, because I love the influence of lemongrass, especially in Thai flavors. I also looked up ahead of time what this dish should look like, which is “pasty” in the texture of the sauce, rather than “saucy” and that showed me it would be pungent and flavorful. What I got when I visited was very saucy and more “American Chinese” style sauce. Flavors were just ok, nothing like what I imagined from looking at the recipe. To go with this, I ordered their Basil Fried Rice, as this is a fav of mine at Thai joints. What I got was wet and sticky, not at all resembling any good fried rice I’ve ever had. The flavor was decent, with basil infusion, but not spicy at all (which is should be). I will say their spices they give you to kick things up are rather legit! So, you definitely will get the heat you seek here!! I did start with some veggie Tom Yum without mushroom. The broth was nicely done, but the veggie was simply diced tomato, so the soup was literally broth with diced tomato…. Not bad, but not what I expected.

Overall, I can see why many would give this place a high rating, the service and atmosphere were great! Flavors are present, but far from bold. But in a town with little “authentic” Asian restaurants (there’s only one I know of in Pittsburgh, which is ChengDu Gourmet and only one absolutely amazing new-age Thai, which is Pusadee’s Garden), I can see why people might feel what they’re doing here is worthy of 5- stars… But for me, I seek more originality and preciseness with the...

While visiting Pittsburgh on a chilly, rainy evening, we were looking for a warm and hearty meal to "hit the spot." We read the overwhelmingly positive reviews for Angkor, a traditional Cambodian/Thai restaurant, so we were convinced to check it out.

We were met at the door by an energetic and friendly young gentlemen. There were 3 groups already seated at tables and people kept on trickling in throughout the evening which indicated to us that this was quite a popular place among locals. Service was a bit slow but we figured this more than acceptable given the delicious food that followed.

For starters, we ordered the Na-taings, which are Cambodian deep fried puff rice squares which have more than enough surface area to pile on the curried pork concoction that came with the appetizer.

Although we were tempted to order the Thai options on the menu, we opted to share a Cambodian dish called Saramann, which is slow cooked beef in a coconut, peanut and lemon grass curry. We were asked about our heat level preference and chose a 7 on a 10 point scale. The succulent beef cubes were so tender and the curry was flavourful, had a rich, earthy, peanut taste and was exactly the right spice we were looking for to warm up from outside and have our mouths breathing fire like dragons. Of course, we got exactly what we asked for and enjoyed every minute of the heat. We got an order of the Thai red ice tea to cool off our mouths. It was absolutely delicious and apparently a bit sweeter than the green Thai ice tea option.

We'd highly recommend trying Angkor if you're looking for something unique, traditional, flavourful and spicy. If the Cambodian food is any indication of how the Thai food is, you'll surely be in for a treat if you...
