I love that Kulcher tries to be unique with their menu but unfortunately the food can be very hit or miss and I've only had one visit so far where it hasn't taken an excessively long time to receive my order (to be clear, this is never the fault of my servers).

I have had fabulous birria at Kulcher, you cannot go wrong with the birria dishes. But then one time I ordered an Asian-inspired honey chicken dish and it was flat out inedible, like sugar cereal flavored chicken in the worst way (they've changed the menu since then). I've been tempted before to get the shrimp and grits and today was the day I decided to try it. I ordered it to go. It took over a half an hour to get it. I get home and unbox it and there was an entire pond of orange grease floating around the top. I didn't want to waste food I paid for so I soaked the grease up with paper towel (it took two btw) but unfortunately that didn't help much. The texture on the grits was fine but they were flavorless, not even some salt. The shrimp were okay enough but it definitely wasn't enough to make up for the other shortcomings.

I wouldn't completely dismiss Kulcher Kitchen but definitely proceed...

My friend group and I came on a weeknight at 7pm, we had a reservation for 11 people which was made a week in advance. We were the only group in the restaurant aside from one couple at the bar, so the slow service to be described seemed uncalled for.

We got there at 7/7:10. We had our drink order, in which we also just ordered food, taken at 7:30pm.

20/25 minutes after we ordered we got our drinks.

At 8:30(1 hour after we ordered) 6 out of 11 people got food.

20 minutes later the rest of the group got their food. (One person was also told an hour after they ordered that they can no longer make their dish. So he had to order something else that was delayed another 15 min)

While it did taste good, the food was cold for a majority of the group.

To top things off - an automatic 20% was added to the check for gratuity. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why this is added - but 20% seems high especially given how poor the service was. There were no comps for the delayed meals.

This is my 2nd time at Kutcher, and unfortunately both times were a similar experience.

I do not recommend this establishment to anyone if you want a hot...

I eat here all the time bc I live nearby but decided not anymore since their repeated actions of trying to bring in more business in an ungodly hour. In the past, food was ok, but the convenience was a plus. It is located in a residential area. The restaurant bar decided on weekends to blast music so loud that you could hear the music 1-2 blocks away until 2am.

There is a limit when the music which used to be nice, recently became noise pollution !!!! Inconsideration to the neighbors in a residential area is morally bad, no matter how much they try to advertise their business by blasting the music so loud, not to mention the health hazard to the patrons. Being a good neighbor could draw more business, yet the management is incompetent to understand that.

A neighborly example of Hofbrauhaus restaurant, two blocks away, keeping the loud music inside respectfully and still have tons of fun.

I definitely would not recommend this place for a good time nor a good meal, because we don’t support inconsiderate bad neighbors...

So I can say confidently that Kulcher Kitchen is a must try spot in Pittsburgh. I'm so mad that it took me this long. 😌 Chef David is fantastic. Thai born, Okinawa raised, and making some of the best damn wings in this city! They were hot, juicy, and crisp. He was even willing to accommodate my pepper addiction and give me extra, extra pepper. The daily happy hour specials are enough to make my want to come back. I want to try their consomme now that I know what I know. 😉 Oh! And my mojito was divine. It's hard finding a GOOD mojito in this city, and this one was made very well. And if you need proof that the wings were good...

Total Score: 8.15 Bathroom: 4/5 Fancy sliding door to the bathroom Customer Service: 3/5 ‘Twas alright. Fairly nice. Ambiance: 5/5 Love the art installation. And they even had a dj today where it was karaoke night. Tho it was a bit sad that it was a bit empty. Food: 3.75/5 The California rice bowl was like a hodgepodge of random things but still fairly good. Tried a bit of the fries but tbh it was kinda dry Wow: 1/1 Who knew that bbq and rice would go so well together ugh if I had one junk food to eat to trash my stomach with it would be this. Total Score = BR + CS + 2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW
