The Frick, and it's Cafe, remain one of the best kept secrets in the city of Pittsburgh. Visiting and dining here is a respite from the business of life. I have long been a fan of their tea service, and I'm rather disappointed that it is now only offered on weekends. You get more food for your buck than most other tea services in town: four tea sandwiches, at least two scones per person, and as an assortment of pastries and fresh fruit. They also offer lunch daily, and dinner services on Friday. This is a lovely place to treat yourself to good food and a little peace and quiet, or to take out of town guests. Non-members can make same-day reservations. After you've eaten, I also highly recommend walking the grounds to visit the Car and Carriage Museum and the greenhouse, both free to enter.

EDIT: Now, post-pandemic, the cafe has re-opened and is moving in a different direction, towards more causal, grab and go fare. I miss the ability to make reservations and have leisurely lunch or tea. The tea service in particular is, in my opinion, overpriced for what is served now: two small sandwiches, a scone and a cookie with tea. Previously, it was four sandwiches, two scones, multiple bite-sized desserts and fresh fruit. Staff have told me that they often had to turn away guests who were visiting nearby Frick park for a stroll, then would look for a place to eat on Google maps, only to find the cafe full with reservations. I can understand that, and wanting to serve more visitors more fully. I feel this changes comes at a loss - the cafe no longer reflects the elegance or serenity of the rest of the property. If you want a fuller tea service, try The Inn on Negley in Shadyside. I still love the grounds and museum spaces on the property, the the cafe was my favorite...

Lovely atmosphere! Called ahead and was told to arrive around 2pm since they close at 3pm. We arrived at 2:15 and ordered at the counter the following: celebration board (charcuterie cheese and meat board), lobster and shrimp roll, vegetable wrap and two drinks for about $80. The Celebration board was good although nothing spectacular. At 2:50 I went back in to look at the drink menu and without any prompting the woman at the register reminded me in an unfriendly tone that no food could be ordered and was I limited to ordering drinks from the cooler area. Around 3:10 we still had not received our sandwiches and we noticed everyone was leaving. I went back in and asked if our food was ready and she said she would check... It took another 10 or 15 minutes for our food to come out some I'm guessing they completely forgot to make it. Fortunately we got our fancy food in take out boxes and were told to take our time and enjoy. We were given some free water bottles. The lobster/shrimp roll was good but much smaller than expected. Overall not a terrible experience, but the not the experience I was hoping for on my wife's birthday... probably one of two times this year we are able to escape our incessantly needy children. I would recommend some hospitality training for the woman at the register since she was the pretty much the only person we interacted with and we over heard another table mentioning her lack of patience and...

My husband and I stumbled upon Frick Park and the Cafe last spring after doing some nearby shopping. We were blown away by everything Frick especially the Cafe. So cozy and pleasant, with lovely surroundings, and excellent coffee. We are from Buffalo NY visiting our dear friends and knew that upon our next visit, the Cafe would be at the top of our to do list. I returned recently with a dear friend from India and of course coffee and lunch at Frick Park Cafe was top of the list. As always, the surroundings inside and outside are brilliant. We ordered coffee and lunch. While we enjoyed both, I feel some suggestions regarding the ham and cheese sandwich would be helpful. It was quite a large sandwich on a rather small plate. Not the best presentation and difficult to manage. In addition, the sandwich was without any side dishes. My suggestion is to offer a tea sandwich instead and then include a side of salad and fruit. That just seems to fit the vibe of the Cafe and give a more complete meal. Frick Park is a lovely area and I look forward to...
