I have never had anything less than perfection at this restaurant. As a born and bred Kentuckian, I know what a good biscuit should be like and these are definitely them. The sausage gravy and biscuits are rich and comforting without being weighty and the fried chicken biscuit is literally the best fried chicken I have ever had. The chicken is marinated or something so it's a flavorful bit even ignoring the fabulous light and airy breading. The strawberry jam is light and delicious, and the breakfast potatoes are salty and seasoned. They have a thoughtfully curated selection of beverages that's a real who's who of PGH stars including de fer coffee, soergal cider, and twin brooks chocolate milk. Honestly it's no surprise that the owners who cut their teeth with the Bloomfield farmer market crowd produced perfection, but every time I eat here I continue to be surprised by how good everything is. I have literally talked to everyone who will listen about this restaurant and have probably brought 7 or so different people myself. The atmosphere is beautiful and friendly and feels like eating brunch at your friend's house. It really brings the best of Appalachian hospitality to life. The owners' family must be smiling from ear to ear. Overall a can't miss brunch destination for Pittsburgh that is totally worth the trek to the Northside from wherever you are in town.
One tip, their dining room operates on counter service. Normally they are stunning at getting people seated quickly after taking your order at the counter, but if a bunch of people have saved seats before ordering then it tends to wreck the system bc there are then no seats for people who just ordered, I do feel like they are always improving the system, but you might have to wait a few minutes for a table depending on time of day. Totally worth it, and the staff today in particular were very active about making the process so smoothly. This is also not a good place to take a large group. While tables can be pushed together, I would be very hesitant to try and eat with a group larger than four given the fairly...
Read moreFirst I would like to address the ketchup bottles. They use glass ketchup bottles, probably because they think it looks classier or something. But they dont wash or sterilize the bottles ever, they just pour new ketchup into the bottles on top of the old ketchup. There is black mold on the rim of every bottle of ketchup in this restaurant. It’s gross and unsafe, if you really want to be classy then you should just give ramekins of ketchup with each order. It’s alarming that not a single member of your staff seems to notice or care about the gross visible black stuff stuck to the rims and caps of the ketchup and it really makes me scared for what else you aren’t catching.
Anyways aside from the ketchup this place is pretty ok. The interior is somewhat cute and I like the order up front model. I ordered a chicken biscuit. It had a decent taste, albeit a bit bland. It was about the size of a McDonald’s biscuit, for reference. The size left something to be desired versus the cost but it was still a solid sandwich. The potatoes were big thick cut potatoes. They smaller pieces had a great crunch and a good seasoning ratio and were tasty. The larger pieces were a big too big and ended up tasting a bit too much like a plain potato, more seasoning probably would have some the trick. Luckily they had some delicious local hot sauce on the table that helped with the bigger bits. We also had some of their baked offerings, which were the weakest link. They were all pretty rough and tasted days old.
All in all this place has a lot of potential but I fear that they have become complacent due to the fact that people in the area will likely support them either way due to the lack of decent breakfast options in the city. Right now the quality doesn’t quite match the price/aesthetic that they are trying to achieve. This place really could be something special though if they can raise the standards that they set...

Wise County Biscuit & Café is truly a hidden gem that deserves to be on everyone’s foodie list! This spot has officially earned a spot in my Top 5 favorite places to eat in Pittsburgh, PA — and for good reason.
It’s a cozy, family-owned café run by a husband and wife team who are often right there on-site, working hard, and assisting customers. Their warm energy sets the tone for the whole experience, and the customer service is top tier — the entire staff was welcoming, friendly, and attentive.
Now let’s talk about the FOOD — absolutely phenomenal! When I say the chefs don’t play, I mean it. The dishes are consistently flavorful, fresh, and cooked to perfection. The café gives off a charming mix of Northern and Southern homestyle vibes, complete with an open kitchen concept that lets you feel connected to the heart of the cooking. They also have bar seating, which is perfect for solo diners looking to grab a quick bite.
Some of my personal favorites?
The Sausage & Gravy Biscuits – OMG, sooo delicious.
The Honey Fried Chicken Biscuit – full of flavor and cooked just right.
The Potatoes and Breakfast Biscuits – comfort food at its finest.
And don’t skip the Collard Greens – they’re vegan-style and absolutely packed with flavor.
