Recently got back from a weekend trip to The Landing Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA. It was a beautiful hotel connected to Rivers Casino.
We stayed on the 3rd floor in a city facing room. It has huge windows and you could see the Steelers stadium clearly. The room was big, clean, and comfortable. It had a mini fridge, ironing board, ice bucket, hair dryer, soft bed, and big tv.
A feature that I haven’t seen anywhere else is auto sensor lights under the nightstands & bathroom vanity. If you’re scared of the dark, or sleep with a light on, I think you’ll love this feature. But if you like a really dark room this might be a challenge. Also, there is a light on the smoke detector that goes off every 30(ish) seconds adding more light to the room. I brought a sleeping mask so, problem solved!
The bathroom was clean & really big, the shower had mounted shampoo/conditioner/shower gel, and there was a little lotion on the vanity. Oddly our room didn’t have a bar of soap to wash your hands but I had brought one with us, so no biggie. I think it was just an oversight and we could’ve called the front desk I’m sure. The shower head was nice, and had 4-5 settings to change the pressure. And the towels were big enough to fit all the way around my body, which impressed me a lot as a plus size lady. The last notable thing is their super plush, soft bathroom mat for the shower area 😍
There is also a large mirror when you first walk into the room, right outside of the bathroom. There’s AC in the room but it does go on “auto” when you’re gone for a while so the AC only ran consistently at night when we were in the room. However it did get to the temp we wanted pretty quickly once it kicked back on.
There’s also continental breakfast included in your stay, just remember to bring the tickets they give you because they do ask for them. There were 4 main hot dishes (scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, pancakes or waffles or french toast, and some kind of potato). Also oatmeal, pastries, toast, yogurt, cereal. It’s not huge but we thought it was good and got you off to a nice start in your morning. There’s also a coffee station with hot tea, and orange juice or iced tea. There’s lots of places to sit & the staff was so quick to clean tables and clear away dishes.
If you’re staying to go to the casino its literally connected by the same front doors. So much so that we accidentally wheeled our luggage cart into the casino not realizing where the hotel door was 😆 It was really fun going down to play the slots or make a sports bet after a long day of being in the city. It was a pretty big casino with multiple food options and table games, and is also where valet is located.
Overall it was a lovely stay and a very nice hotel. With the amenities it provides and the location to the city I think it was a great deal for us. Would definitely recommend...
Read moreMy husband and I booked to stay at this hotel for three nights. We were drawn to the hotel because we saw the overall high review rating and the offer of a nice water view from some of the hotel rooms. We ended up only staying for two nights because the experience was much poorer than expected. Parking is very inconvenient. If you do not want to use the valet, then be prepared to climb four flights of stairs that reek of urine and smoke. There are elevators to take you to the first floor, aka the casino, but you cannot bring in any bag of any kind. We knew it was a possibility, but disappointing nonetheless, my husband and I got stuck in a room with a view of the stadium which is not as pleasing to the eye. The room matches the description but what really stuck out to me was the lack of microwave in the room. I have never stayed in a hotel without a microwave. As a pregnant woman, walking through the casino and breathing in all the cigarette smoke was not ideal. I had hoped to eat elsewhere and bring left overs back to the room but ended up eating everything cold. There seemed to be drawers where a microwave could have gone that were sealed and purely decorative. I had expected at least one restaurant to not be connected to the casino, but alas, every single on sight restaurant/eating option is inside the casino. There is no escaping it. While the hotel has a no smoking policy, that doesn't stop the smell from wafting into the lobby. The complimentary breakfast was nice along with the staff and I enjoyed the long hours of operation of 6:30 - 10:30 am. But again, this is the only eating option on sight that is not in the casino. If you miss the buffet window, then your options are the casino or off property. This experience for us really wasn't great considering the water went out in the hotel on our first night due to an unexpected pipe issue. Obviously, this is not the hotels fault and they did comp the first night, which was appreciated. The water went out around 10 pm and did not return until 6 pm the next day. In the morning the hotel provided a note saying sorry, use the casino for restrooms, and provided three - 8oz bottles of water. Not entirely sure what they expected us to do with the water. It was barely enough to wash your hands, brush your teeth, let alone flush a toilet. I feel like there should have been more compensation considering you still needed to be without water for another half of the day. If you're not planning on spending all your time in the casino, I cannot imagine why you would ever pick this hotel. The only amenity is the fitness center. For a family vacation or even a couples weekend away, I would strongly consider looking elsewhere. Not worth is...
Read moreI have been traveling for business for over 35 years and this by far was the worst hotel that I have ever stayed. The casino is attached to the hotel which seemed convenient. My experience starts with a rude check in with a lady with leather pants and an attitude. I instantly felt an uneasy feeling in this hotel. I unfortunately was attending a business event and was forced to stay here as I has a trade show. The room was not inviting and the casino machines seems low end and outdated. The hotel smelled of mildew and smoke throughout. Even though I was uncomfortable I decided to spend the night as I had no other real options and would have been charged a cancellation fee. So I did ...was this ever a horrible decision. I made it through the night despite a bad order in the room. The next day I checked out and attended the trade show. This is when the nightmare started. I went down to the casino in the morning as I couldn't sleep, returned to my room and got dressed for my trade show at 7:15 am. Several weeks later I was charged a $350.00 smoking charge. When I called for clarification from the hotel desk they instructed me that they had equipment that indicated that I was smoking in the room, despite my mother passing away of lung cancer in 2005 and never smoking a day in my life. I asked to speak to the manager in an effort to learn more of this charge and explain that I was willing to take a lie detector taste, blood test urine test whatever was needed as I am not a smoker or never smoked in my life. I asked if the charge would be removed and they told me no. I asked for a supervisor or a hotel manager to please contact me back regarding this charge and they told me to file a complaint through an email which I did with no response by the anyone. I have fought this charge with my credit card company through a dispute process an will be filling a complaint with the attorney general , BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU and contacting the local tv stations to let them know how this is a poor reflection of the Pittsburgh area. I am very upset that no one took the time to listen to me and the false acquisitions are very concerning. What is next cameras in the bathroom! BEWARE you will be charged frivolous fees that you have no control over and when you question they well tell you at check in the policies were verbally explained. GOOD LUCK...
