weird vibe. asian flavors are okay. traditional ones are not.
went there five days in a row, since it’s around the corner. every single time, the employees seemed just so…sad. never looked up, or explained anything. felt bad for them. this is NOT a knock on them - the point is that they are clearly outwardly unhappy, in a way that is unique to this spot.
don’t bring your kid. they have a counter that makes it impossible to see the ice cream if you’re a child. I had to hold my toddler up to see the flavors, and there is a ledge that juts out, away from the display. i sat her on that ledge for a bit while she picked her flavors (her new shoes touched the ledge briefly at one point - my bad!). hadn’t had an issue with things like this at any of the multiple shops we’ve been to, but…
big issue at this place, apparently. someone rushed out from the back, told us (loud enough for other customers to take notice) to stop, then disappeared. can’t say it was rude, just very strange, considering the setup of their counter seems to invite it? it matched the overall vibe of Churn and Bake though, so i should have expected it. again, my bad!
idk, just a weird, unwelcoming vibe overall. wanted to like it, won’t be back.
to the owner - we are sorry. we won’t be back to bother you or your shop! here’s some helpful feedback for you:
first, and most importantly, maybe treat your employees better, or take a couple of seconds to out of your day to ask them if they’re okay? the employees at the Dollar Tree are way happier, and that place is voluntary torture. quite the accomplishment, Churn and Bake!
if you are going to have flavors like Blue COOKIE MONSTER, but a counter where no kid can see the flavors…maybe put up a sign or something if you don’t want them on the counter…? just throwing out ideas here. best of luck with...
Read moreMy friend showed me the menu to this place and I was fascinated by the flavors on the menu. She did mention that this place had a soft opening, so we might not have the chance to try it today. Fortunately for us we were greeted by the owner of the shop, Charlie. Charlie welcomed us in and allowed us to try some samples of his ice cream. I tried the Vietnamese Rocky Road, Black Sesame, Ube Coconut Crunch and Pineapple guava. My personal favorite was the Ube Coconut Crunch, because the malted milk balls mixed in there made it slightly more sweeter (I highly recommend this for people with a sweet tooth). I ended up getting a scoop of the Ube Coconut Ice cream too and had a waffle cone on the side. I was pleasantly surprised at the aroma of the waffle cone itself that I couldn’t stop smelling it. Charlie explained to me that their waffle cones are made in house and that there is cinnamon in it. I recommend getting this if you are a waffle cone lover!!!
The shop is still in their soft opening phase, but that doesn’t impact the quality of the ice cream we had. I do want to mention that there will be baked goods as well such as egg tarts, brownies, etc. I am definitely coming back for these too.
Charlie, thank you so much for having us. We had a great time trying your ice cream and loved your charismatic personality. We will be...
Read moreEDIT: Below is my old review from over a year ago. Since then, they have updated their menu and all of the flavors (including the thai tea) are delicious with no odd pieces. Service was awesome, they even have a Toast rewards program, and they have flushed out their menu!
My wife loved the Thai Tea and I really enjoyed the Coconut Pandan Tres Leches flavor!
OLD REVIEW Whoever picked up the phone was super nice and assured me all flavors were present! I took some updated pictures too.
Prices are about right for high quality and creative flavors, but I'm rating 4 because the Thai tea and cinnamon toast churro flavors had some bits we didn't like.
The Thai tea tasted super good and authentic, however I felt like I had bits of branches or maybe big tea leaves that were a decent size. I had to spit out some pieces (2-4). The Churro flavor had a lot of tiny bits (I'm assuming the cereal ) that were hard and didn't give a pleasing texture, almost like coconut shaving size in candy bars but harder. The actual churros we're a decent size but rock hard (not sure if it's because it's been frozen for a long time and the batch hasn't been gone through?)
Overall, I'd come back though since there are so many flavors to try and the service was great! The cookie...
