Bf and I visited for our weekly date night because I saw this place mentioned multiple times on r/Plano as one of the best Italian places around.
Bf and I both got salad with our dishes, and it was good for what it was. Dressing and lettuce was yummy, and you get one (1) slice of tomato on top. Could’ve used more toppings or at least more tomato, but I enjoyed it.
The garlic cheese bread we accidentally ordered because we thought they didn’t serve complimentary bread was pretty good. The garlic flavor was strong and I enjoyed it. It was also $6, which I do not believe it was worth.
I will fully go out there and say I ordered something technically not on the menu. I had seen Piccata as a dish on their online order, which is my favorite meal, so I asked the server if it was available. If not, I was totally happy to just order something off the menu. She said it was available and as such, that’s what I got. I’ve had a lot of Piccata, since it’s my favorite, and this… sucked, frankly. It was one of the blandest meals I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The sauce tasted like nothing. The noodles tasted and had the texture of overcooked ramen noodles without the flavor packet. The chicken was good, with a good breading and texture for piccata and a bit more lemon flavor (but not by much). I threw in a decent amount of salt and butter from the bread and it did not save it. Was it gross? No, but it was also $20. I could’ve gotten cheesecake factory’s top tier version of this dish for only $3 more. Now, I know, this was off menu, which is why I’m not completely dinging them for it.
Bf got one of the signature dishes which came with both eggplant and chicken. He said he couldn’t taste the eggplant much and the pasta had a funny texture. I enjoyed his sauce well enough, but it was bland for him, who wanted a bit more kick. He also noted that the chicken was pretty good in his dish also.
Overall, our meal came out to $75, which is more than I usually spend at restaurants of a similar style and audience. This food was not worth $75. I estimate the worth being perhaps $30 max for the value.
I really wanted to like this place more. It was homey and the staff was really friendly. But the food fell flat in value for price. Bf had said there’s a few other things there he wants to try, mainly seafood dishes, but were it up to me alone, I wouldn’t be back. Go to Bella...
Read moreI moved to Texas from Northern New Jersey 13 + years ago, I can honestly say that I had yet to find an Italian food restaurant here in Texas worth recommending. Until now. Covino's goes well out of their way to take care of their customers.... I should say, their "guests", Covino's has a "family" air to it. Today was my third visit, Bill helped me all three times, Russ assisted me, as well, the last time I was here, about 2-3 weeks ago, Bill and Russ go well out of their way, along with all of the other employees, to make their guests' experiences, completely enjoyable. I had special requests for how I wanted my pizza, and unlike an unnamed, other local location in Plano, about 2 miles due North of Covino's, that couldn't be bothered, both Bill & Russ went well out of their way to get my pizza for me as I requested. As for the owner, Joe, all I can say, is that Joe is one of the most gracious, personable and down to earth restaurant owners that I have yet to meet, he greets all of the guests and is a just a really nice guy. While I was waiting for my pizza to come out, we chatted and had some good laughs, along with Bill; Joe, Bill, Russ and the other employees at Covino's, make it very enjoyable to be there. Oh, and the food.... excellent, like I mentioned, this is the third time back there, I have yet to visit any other "Italian" restaurants in the area more then once, and I have every intention in going back there. I highly recommend Covino's; ask for Bill or Russ, and if Joe is there, make sure you find him and chat with him, you will not be disappointed in the food, the atmosphere or the people there. Thank you Bill, Russ & Joe for a great experience,...
Read moreI feel this restaurant is not used to people of color. My husband and I arrived with our son and the Manager pointed to the table we were to sit. He did not take us to our table, sit us down and hand us a menu as he did others that arrived. We sat down and got our baby situated and it took about five minutes before our waiter came. Then we were handed menus to view. He did not tell us his name just asked us what we wanted to drink, reached for our bottle to open it and left. The food was okay. I had Shrimp Alfredo which was good. My husband had Lasagna which was ok. The meat sauce did not taste fresh. We ordered chicken wings as an appetizer and they were really good along with the bread. The salad was soggy and drenched with dressing. The waiter did not talk to us much, he just did his job. The manager walked by our table a few times and just looked at us but he went to other tables to talk to guest who were dining. One lady who had just started stopped by and assisted us a few times. She was very pleasant. I honestly wished she was our waitress as maybe our experience would’ve been better. I’m very keen on customer service so I would’ve liked the waiter to be more attentive and seem happy about serving us. I did not feel welcomed at this restaurant at all and would not return for that very reason. I’ve returned to restaurants that food was mediocre if the customer service was great. I like to give second chances but since I did not feel welcomed last night; I doubt I would...
