Read moreRoyal Kitchen 5-11-24 I am a professional home chef and caterer. At the first opportunity in seeking out new cultural fare and restaurants I find myself starting the engine and ready to explore.
On a recommendation from a friend, I chose the Royal Kitchen located at 3100 independence parkway in Plano, Texas.
My husband and I went on a Saturday around 11:00 am. Travel time was inordinately quick. A pleasure!
We were greeted with welcoming smiles and thank you’s for choosing to dine there. The new owner Rene was in every way a delight. As we arrived an hour after opening seating was immediate. Each table is provided an electronic menu which was a breeze to navigate. One we selected our choices we hit send and our order was sent directly to the open glass kitchen.
Our choices were… Sliced pork, black mushrooms, peppers and chilis in a garlic sauce. Pork egg rolls Crab Rangoon Pan fried dumplings
Attention to service was impeccable. The owner came back to our table with our food. Serving size was enough to feed 2-3 people. The pork dish was beautifully presented and each bite lit up our palates. Very tasty dish and quite spicy. (The chili’s) made a nice addition.
The crab Rangoon, egg rolls and dumplings were equally as good. On a personal note, I spoke to the owner after she came back to our table to see if all was what we expected. I did tell her the crab Rangoon could use an additional ingredient, scallions to elevate a more pungent flavor. She was not offended but stated she would try it on the future appetizers.
We had no complaints whatsoever. In fact, we were planning our next visit as we were leaving. She asked where we traveled from and was humbled when we told her. As this is a brand new restaurant just starting out we wished her well and told her I would write a review. She hugged me!
I give them 4 ….. stars. A must...

The tea is strong and flavorful which was a pleasant surprise since in most places the tea is more of an afterthought.
The century egg congee is absolutely delicious and a must-try, very rich pork flavor and seasoned perfectly.
The fried dough stick (you tiao) to pair with the congee is decent but was not a standout. Skip or add it optionally, either way the congee is the real star here.
Pork buns and egg custard buns are HEAVENLY, not just because the fillings are delicious but because the bread itself is made fresh. The flavor profile of the bun on the pork bun is reminiscent of an elevated and more refined Hawaiian sweet roll. The salted egg yolk in the custard bun is rich and not overly sweet while the bread on the bun itself is very soft and light.
The scallion pancakes are crunchy on the outside and soft with mochi-like chewiness on the inside, the exact right thickness. Seems like they used different types of flour to create that contrast. Our only nitpick was that it could have used slightly more salt, but in terms of texture, this was outstanding.
I've already written too much so I'll keep this short. Get the Peking Duck. Top 3 peking ducks I've ever had.
Great and very attentive service from the owner and waitress. Possibly understaffed since the weekend lunch rush really made things busy. Coming earlier is recommended.
I cannot express just how great this place is. I was taken completely by surprise since we already have great Chinese food in the area, but this really was a tier above the rest. We will be coming back to try...
