There was a woman who was obviously homeless, sitting outside the restaurant. I don't give them money, because I'm not going to support drug habits, but I will offer food if they are hungry.
I went into the store, and when the gentleman before me ordered, he said he didn't want his rice, but the lady insisted that it came with the meal he was ordering. I suggested to him that the lady outside might appreciate getting even just that rice with some gravy if she was hungry, so he told me to ask the server.
I told the server that since he did not want the rice, could she simply put the rice in a separate small soup container (they had Styrofoam soup containers) with some gravy so we could give it to the lady outside.
The server was a young, somewhat arrogant twenty-something girl, who curtly told me, "We don't do that here," and that we'd have to pay another $5 just for her to put that man's rice into the small Styrofoam cup (on the side) as we were asking. It was incredulous! "Man, y'all are cheap!" I remarked.
I decided that I would get the lady at least a meat patty, so that she could have something to eat. Meanwhile, the man who was willing to part with his rice, told me to ask the lady outside if she was indeed hungry.
The lady then got up and came to the door, after I returned to tell him she was. He went to her, asked her what she needed, and bought her lunch, which was very kind of him. "Sometimes, people just need a little help," he said.
Meanwhile, I guess the server got a bit of conviction after he did this, because suddenly she was a lot nicer, and told him quietly that she didn't charge him for the lady's lunch.
Overall, I like Donna's. The food is always good, although most of it has too much pepper for me. I highly recommend the red bean soup, which is what I was there to pick up. I would have scored them higher, but the girl's initial attitude...
Read moreStopped in today on my lunch break and the service was horrible! There was 1 lady waiting before me in the line and 2 SLOW people behind the counter. Waited almost 5 minutes for anyone to come over and take her order. All the lady ordered was some wings no rice nothing it was another 4 mins before the Red lady to come back to me to order. Ordered my soup and before I could tell her I need a lunch special she began to sweep the floor. Mind you there was someone behind me to order. Now the 2 behind the counter running around in circles. I get to the front and I have to wait for the lady in front of me to finish talking to the cook. Then the lady at the register begins to count the drawer and take out money to put in money bag. I had to ask her if she could ring me up because I'm on lunch. Finally almost 20 mins later I leave and get to the office and there is no gravy on the chicken like I asked and no plantains. I will not go back to this location again. The service...
Read moreWould have been 5 stars if I did not have an employee from the restaurant asking me for money like we are in a relationship of sorts. Went into this restaurant after a long while and got reminded of why I should stay away I placed an order for two meals, and even with two(2) types of vegetables nearby and visible, all she said was " no vegetables, tek extra rice," The way she scooped that food and stopped it in made me question myself, not one to argue over things like this I quietly paid while rebuking myself for going there, for the owners of Donna's and all these othere service facilities, do you really know that there are lots of options for whatever you're selling, the writing is ( and has been) on the wall for all you going through the motion types, you need to treat customers as customers, why would I need to have an argument to have my food looking like I paid for it and not like it was smuggled out to me, please...
