As a customer with a service dog, I was concerned by my experience at Padrino’s Cuban Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale on September 26, 2024. Upon entering the restaurant, I was informed by the staff that my service dog was not permitted inside, which conflicts with my understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Service animals should generally be allowed to accompany individuals in public areas of restaurants. I was directed to sit outside, despite the hot Florida weather, which reached 88°F that day, creating potentially unsafe conditions for my service dog.

When I requested water for my service dog, the server, Alexis, stated that he could not provide it, explaining that doing so could result in disciplinary action. He also mentioned something about the owners not liking dogs, though I cannot verify whether this reflects the official policy of the restaurant.

To clarify the situation, I spoke with Delia, the manager on duty. Unfortunately, my conversation with her did not provide a resolution. Instead, I was met with what I perceived as a dismissive and condescending tone.

My understanding of ADA guidelines leads me to believe that service animals should not be restricted in the manner described by the restaurant’s policy, which left me concerned.

Afterward, I reached out to Cara, a manager at Padrino’s Plantation branch, as I had been informed that the owners might be present there. Cara reiterated that service animals were not allowed inside and were only permitted outside. This reinforced my concern that this policy may be applied across multiple Padrino’s locations.

Subsequently, I received a call from Denise, the General Manager, who acknowledged my concerns but did not provide any suggestions on how the restaurant could improve or ensure ADA compliance moving forward. I also contacted Laura Padrino, one of the owners, but to date, I have not received any confirmation that corrective action will be taken.

I believe it is essential that businesses understand their obligations under the ADA and ensure their policies align with federal law to avoid any misunderstandings or violations.

Our most recent dinner started with a delightful array of appetizers: the CROQUETAS DE JAMON were crispy on the outside, with a creamy and flavorful interior, and the TROPICAL CEVICHE was a refreshing burst of citrusy goodness. With a delicate balance of flavors that showcased the freshness of the fish. The addition of pineapple and passion fruit added a delightful sweetness, while the red and green peppers and onions provided a subtle kick. The presentation was also impeccable, making it a truly visually appealing dish. Their dinner menu boasts a mouthwatering array of traditional Cuban land and sea entrees, each prepared with authentic flavors and expert care. This last visit we indulged in their mouthwatering CHURRASCO steak, cooked to perfection with a juicy tenderness that melted in our mouths. And their LECHON ASADO. Which was another standout, with crispy skin and succulent meat that captured the essence of Cuban cuisine. Truly, every dish we’ve sampled has been a flavor-packed delight. I have been a loyal customer of Padrinos Restaurant for years, but their recent expansion has led to an undeniable downfall in their service and quality. My recent experience was the final straw, and I feel compelled to share it.

My husband David, decided to order food for me while he was on a business trip in Europe. I was extremely sick, and he wanted to lift my spirits with my favorite meal. He used Uber Eats to ensure I received the food quickly and efficiently.

Although the packaging was nice, it didn’t contain what I actually ordered. This isn’t the first time Padrinos has messed up our order, but this time it was particularly disappointing. David ordered two soups and vaca frita with rice and beans, and sweet plantains. However, when the meal arrived, I only received the two soups and some rice with plantains—no vaca frita at all or beans.

Ever since Padrinos decided to move locations and expand, their standards have plummeted. The once impeccable service has become inconsistent, and the quality of food has noticeably declined. They always seem to forget something I order, and it's incredibly frustrating.

Not even dining in at Padrinos is the same anymore. What used to feel like a warm, family-run restaurant now feels like just another franchise. The personalized touch and attention to detail are gone, replaced by a sense of corporate indifference. The food and service are simply not what they used to be, and it's heartbreaking to see a place we once loved so much fall to such mediocrity.

The charm and reliability that made Padrinos a staple in our household are no longer there.
