It’s 10 a.m., game day, and my husband and I are heading into town for the KC Chiefs game. He’s not feeling breakfast, so we decide to swing by Sonic for lunch — because, you know, they serve it all day. We order two cheeseburgers, nothing fancy, and I even throw in a $4.11 tip. Not exactly Rockefeller money, but hey, it’s a cheeseburger run, not fine dining.
We pull up, and the place is dead. Our order pops up on the screen as “on its way,” but then… nothing. Tumbleweeds. Two other cars pull in, then mysteriously leave without ordering — which, spoiler alert, was my first red flag. So I hit the red button and say, “Yes, I had an order and—” before I can even finish, the voice on the other end cuts me off with, “Yeah, you ordered lunch, so you’re going to wait.”
Excuse me? I wasn’t asking for a five-course meal or a Michelin star review — just a cheeseburger. So I ask, “Okay… are you wanting to cancel it?” Click. She hangs up. No response. Just radio silence.
At this point, I’m ready to leave because clearly, I’ve entered some alternate fast-food dimension. Then, out she comes — tray in hand — with a smile that could curdle milk, saying, “Oh, here’s your nice fresh burgers.”
And that’s when it hit me: this right here is exactly what’s wrong with customer service today. As an HR manager for a multibillion-dollar company, I see this same attitude creeping into the workplace — entitlement mixed with a dash of “I hate my job.” Why is making a cheeseburger suddenly a personal affront? It’s literally the job. Breakfast, lunch, dinner — same grill, same paycheck.
So yes, my Sonic experience was… memorable. I’d bet good money those other customers who peeled out of the lot weren’t leaving five-star reviews either. Something tells me this location’s complaint file is thicker than...
Read morePositively the worst Sonic I have ever been to. I get that it’s Sonic, and fast food. I’m not expecting a high-end meal. But I do expect even a shred of standards for the money I pay.
I like Sonic’s food as a whole, a lot. I’m not even from around here, and we stopped here for lunch on a Friday afternoon after flying into the airport. The bacon cheeseburger I ordered had maybe 3 small half-inch-wide pieces of lettuce on it. I’m not exaggerating, my burger looked like I was being pranked. I don’t know how someone puts such little effort into topping a burger without trying to prank someone. It also had a small, thin, sickly looking slice of tomato on it, and charred, wadded up bacon unevenly spread across the sandwich.
Next, I barely had 10 fries included with my meal. I’m not sure who filled my fry cup up 1/3 of the way and thought “yep that’s good enough.”
Finally, I simply ordered water for my drink with my meal. So naturally, I get a cup of water filled 90% of the way with ice, and maybe 5 ounces of water in there. How do you mess up water?
The worst part is, this all may sound exaggerated because of my annoyance with this experience. But I can’t stress this enough; I’m not exaggerating even a little bit, with any of this. The meal was so far below low-effort that is seriously seemed like they were intentionally giving me the worst put-together meal they could.
I’ll end with the only positives I can think of. They answered the buzzer quickly and the workers there were prompt and...
Read moreThe food is ok unless they have bad cooks certain days. Stuff just thrown in bag.. not everything we ordered and their shakes of any kind use to be very firm and cold now really runny. Get it together ! EDIT....Went to the same sonic today in platte city MO. There is only 1 in that city and this is what I got ... it's a blast... They gave me my blast with a hole poked it it and instead of redoing it they just stuck it in another cup!!! Really????? I'm starting to wish there was 2 sonics in platte city!! This is crazy! Plus the prices everywhere are crazy and you get stuff not done right. I'm taking these pics to sonics. It was bad enough they poked a hole in it plus the top of the blast was low and unappealing like they normally are.... Hopefully they will make up for this bad blast! Doesn't even taste right... Just sad. Sonics was always one of the best places to get shakes... blasts everything like that but this sonic is not performing up to how...
