El Maguey Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Platte City

My wife and i recently moved to Platte City. We thought we'd try a place that had a 4.4 rating on here. . .were we ever wrong! The staff was friendly, prompt and helpful. They are NOT enforcing the mask mandate, first of all. Second, the food was bland. I guess that is what you get from a small town in Missouri. I had a Burrito Chingon with carnitas inside. The meat was so overcooked it was burned. . . Actual char on it. The rice was flavorless. The salsa had no flavor except black pepper. I guess we will have to drive back towards the city to get a decent meal. Under normal circumstances we would give it another try, but we won't this place. UPDATE Well we gave it another try, 10 months later. Still horrible. Food and service was sorrowly lacking. My wife recieved her food, then 9 minutes later I recieved my order. First off this place doesn't deserve a single star considering my husband is currently suffering from food poisoning after trying to stomach the slop they tried to pass off as Mexican food. What they called ranchero sauce oddly resembled the taste of chef boyardee ravioli sauce ... I myself ordered a cheese enchilada with queso that came out topped with ground beef and pinto beans the taste from the meat alone made me sick, my friend ordered a chicken chimi to which to meat was not chicken and we spent quite sometime trying to figure this grey mystery meat out. When the problem was brought to the attention of the server he took the plates and we still had a $75 bill and not a single thing was comped. The food was unremarkable. I felt like my beef was very dry but I drowned it in sauce anyway, so that's not really as big of a deal as it can be with other varieties of food. When we got there our drink order was taken and then nothing happened for a while. We were just chatting so we didn't notice at first, but no one came with our drinks and to th take our food order.

My girlfriend mentioned it and I legitimately had forgotten we'd even put our drunk order in. The manager must have over heard us because immediately after that comment - our server rushed over and while she was taking our order he brought our drinks.
