TLDR- shorter male cashier made experience traumatic by arguing that it’s the customer’s fault when served incorrect food
My post is only about the service we had at the cashier by the man who looks like the manager.
We ordered a pastry that supposedly had roses in it. The waiter dropped it off and we proceeded to open up a plastic package to get to it. Upon splitting it in half and tasting it, I noticed it didn’t had any rose flavor. That’s when I relooked at the package.
After asking the server what exactly we ate, he said he took the wrong floral pastry but since we ate it there was nothing they could do. (All packaging had a flower on it. Very light font Chinese characters.)
We did enjoy the pastry so proceeded to try and purchase more of the floral pastry that had Jasmin in it. But found it was nowhere to be found on the online ordering menu.
I approached the cashier to show him it was not there. He said back to me that we already ate it and it was the same price as the rose pastry. (Attached are photos of the pastry section showing no other floral pastries except rose.)
As a customer, I would not know what the price is without seeing it on the menu. And then he blamed it on me that I already ate the pastry. I proceeded to tell him, if a customer was allergic or had issues, they wouldn’t even be able to tell medical personnel what they ate. He then said “oh well I can give you your money back”. And kept muttering to my mother and I how it was just $5.50 and that we made a big deal out of nothing.
After trying to let him know it wasn’t the money that made us angry but his response and attitude towards solving the mistake. The issue was “it’s your fault because you ate it so there’s nothing I can do.” Does that mean as a customer you expect us to confirm we got what we ordered before consuming it?
At the end, we still purchased some more of their other imported pastry products. But this cashier kept on saying stuff and ultimately told another waitress to help us checkout. He didn’t even want to be part of finishing up the payment process at this point. Yet he stood over her shoulder continuing to say it was our fault and that it’s not worth it over $5.50.
I agree it’s not worth it. It’s all principle and maybe naive expectations that a restaurant would not serve incorrect food and expect the customer to find out before eating it, but I’d never want someone else to have to experience the same service and deceived.
The food was actually fresh and cooked well. The other waiters were food. Tipped 15% because I really couldn’t give more since he just really made lunch a...
Read moreHands down the best Yunnan rice noodle in Bay Area. We ordered the signature cross bridge rice noodles, douhua rice noodle and ghost chicken. My wife grew up in Kunming, Yunnan and she confirmed all dishes are authentic. It was a very pleasant experience!
Cross bridge rice noodle - the soup is definitely made from scratch and not from pre-made condiments like many other Chinese restaurants. You can taste a pronounced umami flavor from the chicken, surrounded by another layer of creaminess from the pork bones in the soup base. The salt level is perfect. I never had soup base eve close to that in my 3yrs in the Bay Area.
Ghost chicken- a featured dish from the Dai ethnic group. Spicy, sour, umami, and sweet are perfectly balanced up to my taste. You cannot stop once you had the first bite. Might be too spicy for most people though.
Douhua (silken tofu?) rice noodles- A lot of picked mustard, which is great, provide a solid fragment flavor as the bases. The peanuts crumbs gave it another layer of nuttiness. Might be slightly too sour for me. But still delicious.
Btw, the owner told us that their rice noodles are all shipped from Kunming which had a more bouncy&crunchy texture then any rice noodles I’ve tried in US. And they are planning to make fresh rice noodles here. All in all, 5/5. I only wish they could open another one in the...
Read moreWent for a late lunch on a Thursday in early January. As I was walking up to another restaurant, I was feeling pulled towards Cloud Dish....and so glad I did! The place was still pretty packed around 1:30 p.m., yet I was immediately seated. Table for one please! I ordered the "Traditional Crossing Bridge Rice Noodle" soup for $19.99 and the Youtiao (Chinese fried donut). My dishes came out within a few minutes. I dumped in all the ingredients and made my way through a wonderful experience. The broth was so flavorful & delicious, and the ingredients were very fresh. Dunking the Chinese fried donut in the broth truly made it complete! I have frequented another rice noodle restaurant more than several times, and it's called 10 Seconds in San Leandro. They're pretty good too, but Cloud Dish seems to be a little different with less broth options. However, the ingredients are very fresh, and as mentioned, the broth is very tasty. I was so excited to stumble across this restaurant, and I hope to take...
