By far the best espresso in Newport News.
When it comes to coffee shops, there are always two elements that I like to look out for.
Atmosphere.
Coffee Quality.
Atmosphere: This shop actually used to be "Canvas". I'm not sure of the particulars, but it seems as though canvas is now supplying the coffee and the new owner is handling the cafe side of things. Regardless, I love what was done with the place. Lots of seating designed for a long sit as well as places to tuck into some serious work. The music isnt too loud, but you also aren't hearing everyone's entire conversation. The dining room set in the center of the cafe is my favorite. When I work I'm typically looking at 3-6 pages and a laptop. I finally have the space to spread out!
Not to mention the cups! A good cup of coffee needs a good cup. I know this is absolutely subjective but I have a soft spot for the cups here. Think enough to keep drinks warm and lovely to look at.
Coffee Quality: The espresso is well extracted, and a look at the bar shows that the baristas are trained to truly dial in a good shot before serving a customer.
While Busy Nothing's does offer dessert drinks like Caramel Iced Lattes and Mochas their specialty is premium, interesting coffee brewed with precision and love! If you're trying to get out of the sugar coffee game. This cafe is a great place to start.
8.5/10 love having a new weekly spot. Please come check...
Read moreThere are many great things to say about this place and our experience! A++ coffee, lemonade, service, vibes, and something unique that sets them apart - wait for the end!
Coffee - I had the Mr. Bingley. It wasn’t my favorite but it was still a good drink. That’s more on me for always picking something new to me and different.
Lemonade - This is different than any lemonade my wife and I have ever had! They use Lotus in the drinks and everything is freshly shaken and plant based. Super delicious!
The staff were extremely kind and helpful in making recommendations for us who were new to the coffee shop.
There is plenty of seating and the vibes are awesome for a meeting with friends, for work, or personal quiet time.
Lastly, local coffee shops are special because they typically have something that sets them apart from chains. This one has a cork board with envelopes pinned to them (see photo). The envelopes pinned there are where someone has prepaid for a drink and are labeled for someone with a specific need or situation. I’ve never seen this before and it is an incredible blessing for someone that can use this gift which was passed on from someone’s generosity.
Overall, we had an awesome experience and would highly recommend this place to anyone! We’re going back tomorrow before we...
Read moreWent to this place around 2:30 PM today and was surprised to see a taped up sign saying they were closing early today at 3 (instead of 4). Still, I went in, ordered a black coffee, but I was informed they had already cleaned the coffee machine. They offered me an Americano instead. To me, Americanos are just not the same as a good drip or pour over coffee. Americano's are dilited espresso. When coffeehouses speak as though these two drinks are the same, this is a clear indicator that they do not take coffee seriously. This visit was a double letdown--first with the early closing, then not getting the coffee I wanted. Sticking to regular hours and making sure customers get what they’re looking for (i.e. good coffee) is key for a great...
