Ala Carte Café — Restaurant in Port Clinton

• OVER-RATED WARNING

We heard good things about this place, so I figured we would try it to treat the family out. Just for reference, we dropped close to $100 bones for a small family if 4 with 2 adults & 2 children and relatively small portions. The meal was $65 + $20 (tip) = $85 (for a dive bfast!). Basically cheap Reheated freezer food!

OVERALL SERVICE: The staff was very good and friendly, but I think that's about where it ends! The waitresses & hostesses were all spectacular and they worked together as a team and worked very hard, so I want to give credit, where credit is due.

OVERAL FOOD: They want to charge you like a 5 Star restaurant, but provide the food of a dive! This had to be the worst/most disappointing meal we had all year! They use Extremely bad/poor quality ingredients in everything! Nothing was made fresh at all! Just all prepackaged freezer/canned/wrapped style foods! This place is so overrated, they really need to step up their game! Completely amateur cooks (not chefs). The food was very pricey, had small portions, limited selections, and just sub-par quality ingredients. For example, the cheese omelets & everything with added cheese, comes with a half melted slice of Americsn "fake cheese" from the plastic wrap . . . NOT even REAL cheese?!? Any quality restaurant would/Should be ashamed!!! At this price point, you would expect Cheddar, Gouda or something like that. Mushrooms seemed canned, not fresh. No Eggs Benefict gor bfast??? But yet, they definitely arent afraid to charge you top dollar for a bfast! We paid over $68 for 4 ppl, just for a very simple bfast. The Trash Potatoes were just that, made for the trash! They were greasy and made with very poor quality fatty ham slices with an off brand pre-cooked grocery store ham slices & im not talking about ftom the deli counter either! Ground fresh sausage from a local butcher would have taken it ip a notch!!! We got these elsewhere in the area, and these were by far the worst we ever tried! just NOT in the sane ballpark! I have no idea why anyone would be fooled twice by this place! Save ur hard earned money and go get a McMuffin with American cheese instead! I sure wish we did instead! I DONT THINK MY STOMACH HAS BEEN RIGHT SINCE EATING HERE! When you pay more/charge more, you just have much higher expectations, but the bar is set...

If there were 1/4 Star I would have Givin this place that as a full star is over doing it for this place as the service was very poor they tell you where to sit then you sit and they keep walking around you seating others ahead of you they do not give you a menu or ask what you would like to drink and they do not even pay a attention when you are trying to get thier attention to be waited on, they just tottally ignor you. After sitting for 15-20 minutes and being tottally ignored we got up and left, getting treatment or shall I say no service and ignored like we did, there is no chance of ever going back. Very RUDE & POOR SERVICE AND WE WERE, FIRST TIME CUSTOMERS. TOO BAD SO SAD THIRT...

This is everything a simple american diner should be; great staff, both the servers, and in the kitchen. Small place, but tables moved quickly. This is my new favorite place for a hearty breakfast after birding the marshes near Magee and Ottawa all morning. The server was fast and made helpful suggestions; I couldn't decide between the smothered biscuit or trash potatoes, and they suggested the trash bowl, which was a mashup of both and so good! Food came out quickly and was HOT; enough so that I slightly burned my tongue because I couldn't wait to dig in. Had several brands of hot sauce available for your eggs, if that's your thing. 10/10, will be back next time I'm in the Port...
