So because I was finally able to visit South Padre by myself, I figured I would take the opportunity to drive around and see some things that I always wanted to see because I was no longer being selfish. I stumbled across this place on a street that was less expecting of a great restaurant. Let me start by saying, that it was about 10:30 am., and I wanted a mid morning breakfast. Maybe papas con juevos, and throw in some beef, beans and rice. I walked into this place which by the way had cars parked all around it, greeted quickly and very nicely. Once seated, I started looking at the menu and the prices made it hard to judge the portions. Carne Asada Taco, $5.99?Although I wanted beans and rice, because of the price, I was a little scared because I thought that the taco itself would be too much. It was, as beautiful as it came, too much. I opened the gargantuan tortilla to see this succulent beef, and the tortilla was saturated by this beautiful gravy. I had to taste the beef first. It melted in my mouth. I felt like my abuela cooked it for me. Just like 35 years ago. I have to wrap this up because I could go on and on, but this will forever be my go to restaurant and I will send all of my friends and family. Lovely staff, great prices, the food quality, omg. I have fallen in love with this place. You have to try it. I had to give the cook a hug. Love...

The place looks like a little hole in the wall but the flavors they bring to traditional Mexican dishes are on point. I ordered the Chilaquiles with beans. The portion was a good size and it had wonderful flavor. It wasn't soggy or underseasoned or even overly spicy. It did have a little kick to it though. I could have used more beans for the ratio of the Chilaquiles. And the price for all your food is really reasonable. Excellent place to stop in for a bite to eat. Only other thing is I wish they would stay open longer every day, because I would come...
Read moreWe come to South Padre Island almost every year to stay for a couple of winter months in our RV. We happen to find El Papa's restaurant. WOW. This is a one-of-a-kind place. This is a family owned and run restaurant. We got to know the owner and many of the staff. The food is not only EXCELLENT but the service is also the best. We found ourselves eating here every week while in SPI. Kudos to the family and the chef, the MaMa, for running such a delightful place. If you are in the area, you must come to El Papa's. Its on a back street in Port Isabel but you will not be disappointed. Excellent Food. Great Service. And a wonderful family...
