The place was filthy. We put on a brave face and assumed it was just humble and tried to brush it off. So we went to the back, several if not most tables were left unclean with food debris all around them and under them. Again trying to remain positive we headed back to the front. We found only two semi clean tables, and I say semi because you could have filled two plates easily with the amount of food underneath it. I used my feet to do my best to push it away as my little girl was voicing her disgust. As we sat we noticed no one bring served and the place was a mess, but that you probably already knew. The thing that began to make us all consider leaving was that there were four servers just gossiping behind the counter, no one was cleaning. Again we tried to stay positive, so we ordered. I ordered menudo as it's hard to mess up menudo. But apparently not impossible because mine had an odd black color to the meet and was full of bones. I get humble, I have had some really good tacos from places that might make the bravest go running in the other direction but this night at this place was the worst. I really hope the read this, EVERYONE deserves a second chance but I just cant risk that again, best of wishes, hope they...
Read moreI hate to slam a small joint like this, but I just did not have a good experience.
I ordered queso as an appetizer and then the fajita steak enchiladas for my meal. The queso was basically concession stand nacho cheese, yet it was surprisingly the best thing I had there other than my coke.
If you like salsa, this isn’t the place. It comes in bottle and you’re supposed to squirt it into a small bowl. It’s very watery and lacks flavor.
As for the the main meal: something in the enchiladas tasted like they were freezer bit and it was the most dominant flavor, which wasn’t great. The rice was rather bland, and the beans had a cardboard taste to them. I wasn’t able to finish my meal.
Maybe I came on a bad day. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I would normally give a place a second chance, but this experience was just so lack luster that I don’t think I could talk myself into trying it again.
Salsa and enchiladas are staples, and they’re usually what a lot of people base their opinion on when they choose their favorite Mexican restaurants, and this place just fell flat with both of those items.
I’m sorry, just my...
Read moreLa Antigua is a great place to either order out or just sit down and enjoy great conversation with tejano softly playing in the background. The waitstaff is usually pretty attentive unless it becomes busy, which is understandable. Most Mexican places overcharge you and give you small portions, but La Antigua’s prices are great considering the big portion of food that you get. Every time I’ve either took an order to go or sat down to eat, the wait time is usually 15-20 mins. So if you place an order to go you can stop buy a store and grab a soda or if you sit down to eat I suggest ordering a margarita, if you’re of age. There are many items on the menu for all types of different palates, so I suggest going a few times and ordering different things to find your favorite. My all time favorites are the fajita nachos or their breakfast tacos, which is always made of huge portions of whatever you ask them to put on your breakfast tacos. Overall La Antigua is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Port Lavaca in my opinion and I’ll always go to either enjoy the atmosphere or place an order to take...
