Ritter's Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Portage

I have been a loyal customer at Ritter's (Portage, MI) for at least 10 years and it is because of their delicious Icecream and friendly service. During my visit today, I was disappointed in how a member of the staff handled a mistake with my order. I am not sure if she was the manager or owner, but during the confusion of getting my order and charges correct, I was still unsure if I was receiving the correct change back, especially after she mistakenly gave me back the wrong amount the first time. As I was still trying to figure it out in my mind, someone must've spoken to her through the headset microphone she had on and she says loud enough for me to hear, "she's arguing about a dollar." I felt this to be quite rude to allow me to hear, especially since I was not "arguing" and after I waited patiently for them to make the corrections to the "mistakes" that they had made. Afterward, I relayed to her that I just wanted it to be right, regardless of if it were only a dollar, as I feel the dollars (and loyalty cards) I use to pay for my order are earned and mine. In all my years of being a customer, I have never been spoken about in this way. I'm hoping that it will be the last and that it was...

I've never been there but I figured I'd try it out. I love the different flavors and options it's almost to many options lol but I managed to settle on a classic strawberry shake and the hubby got a banana split. First they give me an already melting banana split when I reminded them it was Togo they just took another plastic bowl and tried to put it on when that didn't quite work out the response was that's as good as your gonna get and they walked away while I stood there for another 3 or 4 mins trying to use napkins to catch all the melted ice cream that was all over I managed to get napkins wrapped around it but there was still ice cream coming out everywhere. It was all over me and my car this is definitely a place I won't return to. And to top it all off when I got home after cleaning up the banana split mess I grab my shake and the top pops off and there was another mess to clean up.... Even though the shake and banana split were really good it wasnt worth the hassle and rude customer...

Great prices, friendly & helpful customer service, delicious frozen treats! Beautiful and peaceful outdoor seating in the summer. I was out walking my dogs on the Portage Bikeway and ended up right by Ritter's Frozen Custard. Naturally we had to stop. I got a hybrid of the Blue Raspberry and Watermelon Italian ice in a kids cup which was plenty for me. It was the extremely sweet, fruity taste I was hoping for. If you're not sure what flavor of Italian Ice to try it's okay to ask for a sample. I also got the Turtle Sunday with Strawberries. It was delicious, the custard was very creamy and soft. The chocolate, caramel, and salty pecans balance was spot on! Of course, my dogs didn't go with out their Custard Pup Cup, which they loved! They also offer rides in a banana car in the summer for a small fee. Haven't tried it yet but it looks like fun for families! Highly recommend stopping by...
