Strong coffee with a classic atmosphere. The historic building, white and black tiling, and marble tabletops are best appreciated when the sun shines through the huge windows and makes the indoor greenery pop even brighter. It isn't the biggest cafe, but there are a fair number of two-seater tables, a window counter, and a larger circular table for groups you might be lucky enough to snag.
You could spend all day here, starting off with a coffee and pastry in the morning, then lunch with pre-packaged yogurt and salads, then start your evening with a cocktail. Alternative milk options available. With free Wi-Fi and outlets, it's not hard to see why many choose here to study or work. Dispense your own water from the water station at the pickup counter.
For explanations of the various drinks and unlabeled pastries, look no further than your friendly barista. I opted to get a Caffe al Pepe, an interesting twist on a latte with black pepper and honey. For those who like a hint of spice in their drinks, would definitely recommend - I could even have used a bit more pepper. My Trail Mix cookie was also a delight, being the perfect size and mixture for someone indecisive like myself. Prices are a little on the higher end (a cookie + medium specialty latte coming out to over $12 pre-tip), but worth the occasional treat and a few hours spent basking in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat coffee and good environment but customer service is tribble. Also, baristas seem to have their "favorite" customer when they are giving you customer service. I usually go to the store located in SW Madison St. This barista didn't even greet me; I had to repeat everything for her during the order, then she didn't even bother asking me whether I want the coffee for here or to go. Well, every time I go to the store, I usually take the coffee for here since I usually sit in the cafe browsing my laptop. but this barista gives me the coffee for to go. She just called my coffee (in plastic cup) in front and turned away. Now, I don't even have a spoon or fork to mix my coffee with milk and sugar. Then I had to go to another barista to request for the spoon. But the thing is I saw them serving other customer differently; like serving them coffee in their table with a ceramic cup and spoon. I just felt like they treated me differently and I am never going back to your store. Also, I don't want your freaking candy with this terrible...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām not the one to complain about customer service but on numerous occasions Iāve had the unfortunate experience of dealing with the tall brunette female Barista who I think goes by Thaya. She always has a sour face every time Iāve had interactions with her & I often ignore it. But today I draw the line of even coming back to this establishment ever and even bringing my clients here because of her selective customer service. When I asked her to fix my drink today (twice) she makes a comment as I walk away and says thatās not even a latte. She NEVER announces my order food/or drink & leaves it on the counter but she does it for other customers, Iāve seen her even smile with others so I know sheās doing it purposefully. Management needs to train her on applying customer service to EVERYONE even if they donāt fit a ācertain imageā. Iāll take my money to the other Cafe Umbria...
