My experience at The Bidwell Marriott in Portland, OR, was extremely disappointing due to poor customer service and unprofessional treatment by management. On February 13th, I flew into Portland during snowy weather, arriving at the hotel around 8:00 PM with a reservation made weeks in advance. Upon arrival, a young lady at the front desk began checking me in after running my card. I provided an employee associates rate form for friends and family, as required. However, I was soon approached by a manager named Levi, whose behavior was both disrespectful and unprofessional.
Levi informed me that my reservation had been canceled because a large group had arrived earlier, and my room was given to them. When I questioned why my confirmed reservation was disregarded, he provided no logical explanation and repeatedly mentioned that he had the authority to override reservations, referencing a policy on the form I had submitted. When I requested to see the form to understand this policy, Levi refused and backed away as if I were threatening him, which made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected. Instead of offering any solutions, Levi told me I would receive an email confirmation of the cancellation and a refund within 3-5 business days, then dismissed me to assist the next guest.
Left with no alternative, I had to find another hotel that thankfully treated me with professionalism and care. However, my frustration continued when I had to follow up regarding the refund of $470.96. On February 22nd, I called the hotel and spoke to a front desk agent who claimed their system showed I had stayed at the hotel. After explaining the situation, she admitted she was new and advised me to call back on Monday to speak with someone in accounting. I then contacted Marriott Corporate, but they stated they could not assist since it was an employee friends and family rate.
On February 24th, I reached the accounting department and spoke with someone who seemed genuinely helpful. They assured me I would receive an email confirmation within an hour. Trusting their word, I waited. By February 26th, no email had arrived. At this point, having been charged for services never received, I contacted American Express to initiate a chargeback, as this felt like a clear case of fraudulent activity.
The lack of professionalism, poor communication, and failure to honor a confirmed reservation reflect poorly on The Bidwell Marriott. I will also be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I cannot recommend this hotel and hope management takes this feedback seriously to improve their service...
Read moreFinishing touches. From the moment that I got out of my taxi to the moment that I first bumped Josh for the last time, this hotel was all about the finishing touches. ||Let me start by saying that this hotel is Immaculate, it may not have the biggest lobby, but in no way did I ever feel cramped. Josh was the first person that i met as he was there man the front door and control traffic in front of the hotel. He is a Rockstar and always made me feel welcome every time returned from training. ||Elliot was the one that checked me in and was incredibly professional and did everything to help accommodate me and my wheelchair. He was amazing and remembered me by name whenever we saw one another. ||The hotel also has a restaurant / bar which was always well manned late into the evening and were incredibly helpful. One evening, my company held a meet and greet here with 80+ people and it was comfortably enough that I could weave my wheelchair throughout the crowd with ease. The event was incredibly well manned, and not once did I ever need to ask to have my drink refilled, the food was well done, tasty, and plentiful. ||During this event I had the opportunity to speak with the assistant GM who was engaging and a great leader to her l team, and even took my glass before it was empty to get it refreshed. We talked for about 10 minutes, and she was primarily concerned about how welcomed that I felt and how her team was doing to accommodate me. During the event, I also spent some time with Jessie, a young man who spent time with me discussing cruising and wondered what cruise lines that I sailed. He was an incredibly hard worker who held a job between the two Marriott's in town, and was great to talk with always making me feel welcomed. ||In the 4 nights that I stayed there, I always felt welcomed there. The room was incredibly accommodating to my needs, had an great number of USB ports and power plugs for my chair, 2 monitors and a laptop, had a fridge and a safe in my room as well as an ample supply of hangers for my clothes. The only minor complaint that I have is that although the bed was incredibly comfortable, it was too low to the ground and could have been 4 inches higher. The room attendants always made sure that the room was Immaculate every day. ||I loved this hotel, and when I go back to Portland, this will be my choice of places to stay. It always made me feel safe and welcomed for every engagement that I had...
Read moreWe recently spent a few days at this hotel. My husband is a Titanium member and we are frequent travelers, however, this was my first time in Portland. When we arrived at the hotel late at night, there was a young man dressed completely in black and leaning against the building. We thought he was a panhandler and tried to avoid him by going through the other doors, but they were all locked so we had no recourse except to pass him by and go through the only unlocked door. It was at that time that he moved a bit and we could see the word "Security" on his back. As we passed him he didn't say one word to us but passed us by as we all walked into the lobby (he disappeared somewhere into a back room). We asked the desk clerk for an upgrade with a view and he told us those rooms were on the 18th floor. When my husband asked if they (the upgrades) had king beds, which is what we reserved, he said they did not, only doubles, which seemed hard to believe. I asked for a room with a bathtub, he said since the renovation, all of the rooms have tubs. He gave us a room on the 15th floor and he said it had the best views of the city. When we arrived in the room, I immediately looked in the bathroom, there was no bathtub. I turned on a light by the bed and saw a "deodorizer tree" hanging from inside the lampshade. It's the same tree a teenager might hang from the rearview mirror of their first car. I then saw another tree hanging above the room door. Both trees had printed on them "little tree, new car scent". I put 2 and 2 together and surmised these car deodorizers were put in the room to neutralize the smell of pot that undoubtedly often permeates since it is legal in Portland. Our view was nothing to write home about. We looked into vacant office buildings and into someone's apt. below. If it was the best view of the city, I can only imagine what one might see from rooms on the other sides of the building. The room was mostly clean, although it seemed that the floor had not been swept before we arrived. It was otherwise bland and somewhat "cold," not particularly welcoming. The shower had a weak water output so I held off washing my hair thinking I would need more time than I had to get all the shampoo rinsed out. The Marriott lounge was decent but, again, nothing outstanding. The people we met at the front...
