I've been twice and have been floored both times. Their shared plates have great, clean flavors focusing on local ingredients with a bit of inventiveness and little pretension. Service has been on point and very friendly from the reservation over the phone, to the greeting from the owner behind the bar to the table service. Highlight and standout vs our many great restaurants in PDX has to be the wine service - the owner maintains a nice list but do yourself a favor and just tell him your tastes and a price point and let him dig into his off list selection for some amazing wines. I'm a bit put off by so many restaurants marking wines up 3X that are still available on the shelf today and really not drinking well yet but the owner here clearly has a passion for wine and sharing good selections that are drinking at their prime with...
Read moreWe did not have a great experience here. All of the food was fine - well-cooked and seasoned, but nothing stood out. Would have been a pleasant evening. The service though, was pretty bad. Our waiter rarely checked on us, never asked how our food was or if we needed anything else, and I had to flag him down to get another round of drinks, after quite a while with empty glasses. We also had our last dish come out almost an hour after the other 5-6. We asked twice if it was coming, and he got a bit snippy and said “I’ll bring it out when it’s ready.” He never offered to check on it, or apologized. It seemed like the kitchen’s fault, not his, but he could have easily kept us informed and checked on it, given us an ETA,...
Read moreRead moreThe wait staff was prompt and courteous. Odd and inappropriate that the owner/chef was visible in the kitchen with a mask dangling from one ear. When we asked the wait staff to address the issues, they excused him as taking a drink of water. Nope. Mask remained dangling 75% of the time. Not good. Bad public health message, and inconsistent when other staff were fully masked. Just wrong. And, agree with other posts, portion sizes were meager. Pork shank really was inappropriately small. Have enjoyed Davenport in the past, yet this experience really...
