this place is pretty great.
if you read my reviews you know i'm not a big fan of loud bars... but, this place has great simple food, some fun events, an amazing patio in the summer and a fun vibe.
so the menu, i had a friend who was sad they didn't offer a simple burger, or any burger for that matter. i've learned however that they have a changing menu. there is a set 5 to 10 items up on the board but the white board down and to the right side of the main bar is the changing menu. i had the beet salad and it was phenomenal for a place that just has a simple side kitchen and no real prep time/space. beets with chicken, a creamy vinaigrette, crispy flakes and lovely greens. really a win for bar food. the grilled cheese was simple and perfection. i'm a fan!
a tip: if you are a regular at the laurelhurst theatre you should know that your ticket gets you a dollar pabst at the standard that same evening i believe. you'll have to do some asking as it's not advertised but it's a pretty rock'n deal for an already rock'n...
Read moreI came here with a couple of coworkers. We were visiting out of state on a work trip and a friend of a friend recommended The Standard. It is your typical dive bar. No fancy frills but nothing but fun! A variety of good music was playing in the background. People were playing pool. The crowd was a mix of ages and different walks of life. It made for a good time. The pop rock Jell-O shots were the surprising underdog of the night! It was like a party in your mouth. Our bartender Devon was amazing! He was attentive and engaged in conversation. The owner Reed was working hard behind the bar too. He was really nice and made sure we were well taken care of. It was fun getting to know him. Today happened to be his 18th anniversary of opening The Standard! What a milestone to be proud of. If you’re looking for a laid back judgement free zone with strong drinks, good times and hard working bartenders… then The Standard is the spot. From Arizona, wishing Reed another 18 years of success....
Read moreThis dive has earned a special place in my heart. Excellent seating area & most of the front wall is a garage door, so the most of the place is essentially open air. (Outdoor area closes promptly at 10pm because they are good neighbours 😄) I'm a cheap beer person, so the $2 Hamm's hits the sweet spot! Food looks good & outside food is more than welcome, which is wonderful as there are some truly baller options right across the street! Staff is exceptional & friendly.
Other points of note; yes, there is video poker one pool table that FREE, at least on Saturdays pinball (yay!), three tables... Oh & buck hunter jukebox! (Though it is Touch Tunes, which I dislike intensely) clientele consists of locals & the hip
OH! I totally forgot to mention that you MUST check out the...
