Upon walking in we glanced at the case like we have dozens of times before, eagerly trying to decide what we wanted out of all the amazing selections.
The lady in the leopard print dress behind the counter told us she would get someone to seat us immediately and how many people were in our party. I said two and my husband added, "Could we sit at the bar please?"
She snipped, "No, someone will seat you at a table."
There was not one single person seated along the entire bar at the time we walked in.
My husband is limping with an injured foot, and was trying to walk around the least amount possible.
Our server came and told us our table was ready. We tried to mention we were still looking at the case so we could decide before we sat, but she insisted we follow her to the table. Once seated, she told us to go back up to the case to decide what we wanted.
I must interject, the place wasnt packed... only 10 people split between two tables!
I went back to the case to look, but asked our server to describe the buche de Noel's to my husband, who couldnt walk back up to the case again.
Shortly after we were seated and ordered, 2 people walked in and were allowed to sit at the bar.
I have come here a minimum of 6 times a year, since we moved here almost 5 years ago. I have touted this as a place where pastry chefs go for their desserts (I'm a lifelong career pastry chef). Every single time we sat at the bar, and we have never been treated or rushed like this before. I'm hoping it's a one-off, but it has tarnished my entire experience.
The desserts we ordered tasted quite good, but we weren't happy at all. This is a new feeling for me in this treasured space.
We came in intending to eat desserts at the bar, and get a large selection to-go for enjoyment over the holidays. I'm actually typing up this review and reconsidering our to-go purchase.
I'm adding an edit here As our server took our bill, I asked, "If we want to add a couple items to-go, can we get those through you or do we have to go back up to the counter and wait in line?" She said we had to go up to the counter. I saw her turn and look at the counter where 10 people were waiting in line, hesitate for a second, then look back at me and repeat, "yes, you get them at the counter. "
We walked out and didn't but any...
Read moreI wish I could give this place a good rating but I just canât! Four of us were there, one from out of town. I wish I had read the reviews before we came. The desserts are beautiful I will say that for them But overpriced, ($75 for dessert and coffee really??? ) I would have no problem with that if the flavor was wonderful but it wasnât at all. I got the ice cream sandwich, and it was inferior to anything I would get it at Dairy Queen. The ice cream was extremely sweet I nearly choked on the cinnamon covering the ice cream sandwich. The others in our group all got different things and each were disappointed. I got an espresso and that was actually quite good, but I did ask for decaf and I am sure I received a regular. Itâs very awkward when you come in. We were completely ignored at first. The server passed by us several times, and one person in my party suggested we go to Haydenâs or some other Nice dessert place and I wish we had. They only expressed interest in letting us sit down when I said I wanted to buy a box of chocolates. You buy the truffles and you cannot decide or even know what is in them or how old they are they are wrapped without any explanation of what is in the box. I mean thatâs just weird. And the seating situation when you come in really is awkward like another review were said.
Please if you were the business owner, 1. Make it obvious to people what you want them to do when they come in. Welcome them and see them immediately or have a sign up to tell them what to do. Your coffee is great, the presentation is exceptional, but I would have rather pay $75 for a painting of a dessert than to pay for one that taste so badly. There really need to be some changes in this menu and your recipes. Your desserts just donât hold up to even a decent standard and taste and quality.
When you sell a prepared box of truffles at least make sure the customer knows where they are getting. We donât know what is in there, or even how old it is⌠Who would do this? I regret that I purchased this box is a gift and might be just terrible.
I apologize for posting a poor review, but I felt it was a matter of integrity that people donât spend money on...
Read moreUpdate 5/28: I appreciate the restaurantâs response below. After writing my review, I did contact Caviar by email and asked them to contact the business and update their delivery instructions. They emailed me back within a day. I hope they reached out to the business. Best of luck to you.
It is understandable that people are tense during this epidemic, however, the female presenting individual handling take-out orders and dealing with Caviar delivery drivers is really rude (my guess is they are the owner or head chef). We are not just delivery drivers. We live in the community, and often spend our money at the amazing places we deliver for.
On this particular Friday, I was trying to pick up an order. I followed their instructions on the app, which were entirely incorrect, and was talked down to and treated with disrespect by a very annoyed female presenting individual. There is no other signage correcting where to pick up orders, and Iâm not a mind reader. Iâm out here during an epidemic trying to pay my bills just as they are. You would think mutual care and respect would be shown at minimum during such trying times.
As a business, if you are unable to get a hold of the delivery service you are using so that you can change your pickup instructions, an easy remedy would be to create a sign/note with new instructions. Place this sign on the chain fence you are telling people to go through and the front door. This solution could help.
I will never give my business to an establishment with rude, condescending staff. Judging from the other reviews, the rude behavior should not be a surprise. Maybe itâs time for you to find a new line of work that doesnât involve...
